“We did it with heart—and we didn’t give up.”
Najwa, a Campus Director in Sudan, led one of the most inspiring Hult Prize local programs of the year. Despite the obstacles, University of Al Fashir's program took place during an active war.
With internet blackouts, safety concerns, and limited resources, Najwa and her organizing committee adapted with resilience: recording sessions, shifting events online, and traveling away from home just to find a stable Wi-Fi connection late into the night to keep things running.
In 2022, Najwa traveled to the US to represent Sudan as a student startup team in the Global Accelerator in Boston. That experience transformed her. “I wanted to bring that opportunity back home, to students who had never heard of Hult Prize,” she says.
Najwa empowered dozens of young entrepreneurs in her community to build ventures addressing real and urgent challenges—from education gaps to food insecurity and displacement. One startup, inspired directly from lived experience, pitched a mobile system to help displaced people avoid landmines.
“Leadership is not just managing tasks,” she reflects. “It’s believing in others, even in the darkest moments.”
Najwa dreams of expanding Hult Prize to more regions in Sudan and helping train the next generation of youth leaders.
