New Book Announcement!

We are thrilled to announce we have acquired the world wide rights to a new picture book by Sarah Surgey. It’s called Greener Grass and it’s being illustrated by Dannii Summerfield.

As a small independent publisher we are keen to make sure any new books we publish keep to our ethos — which is to produce empathy-led, inclusive and accessible books for children.

And Greener Grass is a perfect fit!

Greener Grass follows Etta, a young girl who loves her high-up, balcony garden. Until one day she sees a boy in a ginormous garden down below and starts to feel a pang of jealousy.

But when a storm comes, Etta notices the strength in her small garden. She discovers that beauty doesn’t depend on size, and neither does joy. Her garden is just perfect as it is.

Greener Grass offers a thoughtful, exploration of jealousy and gratitude, alongside the pleasure and pride that growing plants and flowers can bring.

The book is brought to life beautifully through Dannii Summerfield’s detail-rich illustrations. Every spread bursts with colour and texture. The illustrations don’t just accompany the text — they expand it, showing that even the smallest spaces are full of beauty.

Ideal for ages 3–8, this book is perfect for reading and sharing at home or as a story starter for a PSHE lesson in school. It will appeal to anyone who loves plants, gardens, or stories full of empathy.

We are extremely proud to be publishing this wonderful story from Sarah Surgey, the second story of hers we have published.
We are excited that Ebbs & Flows now has an a sister title with us!

We really hope you like our teaser cover. Greener Grass will be out this summer!

Thanks for reading!

Next week Monday 3rd - Friday 7th February is Children’s World Mental Health Week and we are very excited to be offering some free virtual author visits with our fabulous author Sarah Surgey.

Her beautiful picture book ‘Ebbs and Flows’ has been an incredible addition to many schools PSHE resources. It’s a real conversation starter on mental health. We follow Pia on a journey through her emotions, which are both up and down. We see how she accepts them all and learns from them.

The illustrations by Gozde Eyce bring this book to life perfectly. Originally published by Terènce Van Driel

If you would like a FREE zoom session from Sarah for your early years/KS1 to hear her talk about her inspiration for writing Ebbs, the story itself and any questions from the children - we still have a few 30 min slots available!

Don't worry if you can’t make mental health week, we would love you to still get in touch as we will be able to offer more sessions in the future.

For full info or to book in please contact us on [email protected]
And to read more about our empathy led book list just take a look at our website.

Thank you,
Lucy

I’m really excited to finally share the cover of my next book Swop The Daring Dinosaur Detective! It’s out on January 20th and is beautifully illustrated by James Cottell. It’s the second in the dyslexic friendly 7+ Swop series. I have really enjoyed sharing Book 1, Swop The Satsuma-Sized Secret with so many children so I can’t wait to get into schools next year to share this new one. It’s set in The Natural History Museum, so I have so much to talk about — dinosaurs, fossils and of course the world’s smallest dog! Preorders are available on our website (will be posted out before the 20th Jan) and if you order before Jan it will come with some fun freebies. www.brilliantmonstersbooks.com
