BIG HIT MAN 🍃

Been digging through the collection, and pulled out this underground hip hop gem.

Erule - ‘Listen Up’, released on Pallas Records in 1994. Sampling the late great Roy Ayers’ ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’.

The record also featured in this iconic scene from the cult classic movie, KIDS, released in 1995. Directed by and written by Harmony Korine.

.vintage, Hanoi 📍

: Last week, I landed in Hanoi, Vietnam, and spent a few days exploring the hectic yet charming streets of the city. I had lots of things that I wanted to see and do, and not a lot of time to fit it all in, but we gave it a good go!

One place I was keen to check out before I arrived however, was Diathan Vintage Record shop. I dropped by one evening and met Thai, the shop owner. We spoke at length about our favourite soul artists (Aretha Franklin’s ‘Young, Gifted & Black’ album playing as I walked in), and Roy Ayers, who had sadly passed that day, all whilst simultaneously checking out his impressive array of stock. He imports practically all of his records from Japan, so there are plenty of gems to find!

So if you find yourself in Hanoi at some point in the future, make sure you go check out Thai’s store and support his business. 33 years young and fulfilling his dream of owning and running his own record shop! Absolutely love to see it.

Thank you for your time Thai. I’ll be back next time with an empty suitcase 😉
