Is that enough?

Ashley James Barton, 37 [27.6.83] of Bute Gardens, W6, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, 28 July where he was sentenced for two counts of r**e and one count of assault by beating.

Barton was also made subject to a S*xual Harm Prevention Order [SHPO] and one of the conditions of this is that he has to inform the Police of any intimate relationships he enters into. There is no expiry on this. He was also placed on the S*x Offender’s Register for life.

The offences were committed in December 2020 and February 2021 against a woman in her 30s with whom Barton had an intimate relationship.

Barton was originally tried for these matters in November 2021, but the jury were unable to reach a verdict on the r**e offences. He was, however, convicted of assault by beating

On Tuesday, 17 May 2022, following a retrial, he was found guilty of two counts of r**e and was subsequently sentenced as above.

The offences took place in December 2020, when Barton punched her in the face for no reason which resulted in a black eye. On 15 February 2021, Barton r**ed her. The victim told the court that she feared for her life throughout.

At no point has Barton shown any remorse for his actions and in fact, on several occasions when giving his evidence in court, referred to himself as the victim.

He claimed that the allegations were lies being told by the victim and that she was the abuser in the relationship, not him. The jury rejected this baseless defence.

A man has been arrested after a police car was deliberately rammed by a stolen car.

The incident began at around 07:55hrs on Wednesday, 27 July in Trader Road, E6

A woman in her mid-60s reported she had been pulled from her car, an Audi A3, by two men and her car stolen.

The woman had suffered minor injuries during the robbery.

The car was circulated as stolen and was seen by local officers at around 08:42hrs the same day in Wennington Road, Rainham.

The car appeared to be in convoy with a Mercedes car but this peeled off shortly after the pursuit began.

A police pursuit of the Audi was authorised and was taken over by Tactical Pursuit trained officers.

While in the course of the pursuit on Marsh Lane, Romford, the Mercedes that had been seen earlier returned and rammed one of the pursuing police cars into the central barrier.

The two officers in the car received minor injuries and were later treated and then discharged from hospital.

Two police vehicles were damaged during the incident.

The Audi made off and was later found abandoned nearby.

The driver of the Mercedes ran off from the scene, but was chased and arrested by officers.

The Mercedes was subsequently found to have also been stolen in Essex earlier in day.

There were no other reported injuries.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the collision, it has now reopened.

A man beat his girlfriend to death then went to buy cannabis, a court heard.

Kevin Ashton left Helen Joy with 121 external injuries – then claimed she inflicted them on herself.

The mum-of-three was found lying on a mattress with a photo of her former pet dog in her hands.

There was also a squirrel cuddly toy and a bottle of cider next to her body.

Ashton, 45, then travelled to Cheshire to see his family following the heinous attack.

He denied murdering the 54-year-old and said he kissed her on the head to wish her goodnight.
