No rest for the wicked! Today we are happy to announce another artist to join our ranks, and the first one to sign to our secular branch - The Ringards

We've been a fan of this band for a while so we're very excited to announce the release of their new single a month from today and more music later down the line as well.

Today is the day! Saint Leonard has officially become an Isolar Records artist.

After the release of his acclaimed album ‘Good Luck Everybody’ and touring across the UK and Europe, with stand out shows supporting Patti Smith, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Father John Misty, Saint Leonard has worked on new music with The Fat White Family's Alex White and Nathan Saoudi, and other collaborators we'll be showing off in due course.

We're very excited to be releasing his first single off his upcoming album soon, so watch this space, and follow Saint Leonard for more clues and insights.

The Children of the Pope—judging from the band’s name alone, you know you’re in for something good. Signed by Isolar Records in early 2022, the band’s rise since their formation in 2018 (in the “grimiest parts of South London,”) has been meticulously documented by Lou Smith, and they’v...

Big love to So Young Magazine for this review of the new single.

"The textures on ‘Lean Closer’ are striking. Each individual element holds its own physical space in the song; something so important for a track multi-layered with guitars, pianos, violins, saxophones, flutes and sound effects (with the help of Black Midi’s Seth Evans, and Fat White Family’s Alex White). What occurs then, is a dense song that never feels too heavy but rather, the opposite. The folkish warmth that makes up most of the track is deceitful in its simplicity. From the jangly piano that fills an empty room in the intro, through to the ‘A Day in The Life’-esque breakdown in the bridge. By the time the song has ended, you snap out of your haze and realise how much has passed by in just five-minutes."

When Bishopskin released their debut album 'Ye Olde Britland Isle Bishopskin' in 2020, they were apparently confused by the traction the album garnered. Listening to that first album through to the new single 'Lean Closer', released via Isolar Records, makes this confusion… confounding.

Lean Closer, the new single from is out today on
______________________

“As befits an unusual band, Bishopskin’s new release, “Lean Closer,” had an unusual beginning. After failing his driving test for the seventh time, lead singer Tiger Nicholson sat down in the grass alongside a busy road and watched the cars rush by until the sun set, half-singing and half-shouting what would become the song’s refrain over the roar of the traffic. “I then recorded a version of it on the top deck of the bus and sent it to James, who made this broken man’s worship into the song we have now,” Nicholson said.”

Thank you Chiara Strazzulla Thomas for this review of Bishopskin's show on Sat (and all the other amazing acts).

"This is a band which must be seen live, because they have an almost performance art-like quality to their shows, arising from the powerful showmanship of frontman Tiger Nicholson as much as from the unique ambience they are capable of creating with their music. There are bands which are hindered by the complexity of their composition, but not Bishopskin, who weave elaborate tapestries of sound and deliver them with the immediacy of the old-style folk music which is one of their many inspirations."

Thank you Totally Wired Magazine for this brilliant review.

“No one can be free who has thousand ancestors.” I’m paraphrasing L.M. Montgomery, but it’s dead true. We’re shackled to the past because it’s what has melded the present. We’re chained to its rhythms. However many centuries away we are from the nomadic tribes we are descended from, th...

Big thanks to Backseat Mafia & Chiara Strazzulla Thomas for this review.

"It is a deceptively simple concept developed into a complex, layered music tapestry, relying on the overlaying of vocals and the switching of rhythm to tap into something as primal as it is powerful. The band describes it as a callback to ‘the ancient folk songs that all music was born from’, and it certainly feels like that – from the tapping precision of its rhythm that makes it almost like a battle call, to the use of repetition and the evocative breadth of the tune which has something of folk music to it while also reprising the initial scale in a way that is akin to another old tradition, that of country music. The vocals are front of stage here, dark and soulful and devolving towards the end almost into a roar, an abandon which is most welcome in our time of over polished jingles.."

'I Was Born on an Island' by Bishopskin is now out on all the usual platforms. It is the first song released on Isolar Records and we couldn't be more proud.

Here's an early morning message from Tiger, with all the links in the post.

Hope to see some of you Londoners at their show tomorrow night.
