AM I WRONG FOR BEING UPSET THAT MY 71-YEAR-OLD MOM SPENT HER MONEY ON TRAVELING INSTEAD OF HELPING ME WITH MY BILLS?
My mom is retired and has plenty of savings, but instead of helping me pay off my credit card debt, she's blowing money on trips to Europe and cruises.
She says she's "finally enjoying life," but what about my life? I'm struggling, and she just watches while sipping cocktails on a beach. Parents are supposed to support their kids—not abandon them for vacations.

"Sweetheart, I worked my whole life, saved carefully, and went without luxuries so you could have everything you needed.
Now that I can finally enjoy the world, you expect me to put your financial mistakes ahead of my happiness?
I love you, but I won't spend my retirement bailing you out while I sit at home. You're an adult now—it's time to stand on your own feet."

Diane, 62 years old, was the perfect tenant. She was quiet, didn't damage the property, and always paid her rent on time. Then one month, she came up short.
Her landlord, Chris, fanned out the money he'd taken from the envelope Diana gave him and waved it in her face. "A hundred and twenty dollars short, Mrs. Salinger."
Diane blushed. "I will pay you the $120 in two weeks..."
"Mrs. Salinger, I'm a businessman, not a charity! I want you out by the end of the week," Chris snapped.
"But Mr. Turkle..." Diane protested. "It's only for a couple of weeks, and it won't happen again!"
"It happened once, and that's enough for me, Mrs. Salinger. You're out," Chris said coldly. He turned his back and walked out.
He headed home to get ready to go to dinner at his younger sister Vanessa's house. Later, he knocked on the door, and Vanessa welcomed him with a happy smile.

"I need your help," she said. "Can you watch the kids for just an hour? I have an emergency. I'll be back soon."
Without hesitation, Emily took Toby, the wide-eyed 5-year-old, and James, the two-month-old baby, into her home. "Of course, Allison," she said, trying to reassure her friend. But, as Allison walked away, Emily had no idea that "an hour" would turn into seven long years.
The first few days were a blur of calls and unanswered questions. Emily tried everything to find Allison — calls to her phone, inquiries at her workplace, AND even contacting mutual friends. But Allison had vanished without a trace. Left with no other option, Emily became Toby and James' caretaker. Days turned into weeks, weeks into years. She watched them grow, celebrated their milestones, and became the only family they knew.
Seven years later, everything changed on a warm evening by the ocean.
Emily and the boys were taking their usual walk along the beach. Toby, now 12, was kicking a ball while James, a spirited 7-year-old, held Emily's hand tightly. As they strolled, Emily's eyes caught someone in the distance — a woman she hadn't seen in years.
It was Allison.
