Hugh Grant friend and ex-MP Evan Harris accuses The Sun of phone hacking and destroying evidence
Former MP and press reform campaigner Evan Harris stood outside the High Court today with his legal team and friend Hugh Grant in support, to criticise the alleged lies and cover ups by News Group, The Sun and, specifically Rebekah Brooks in an unprecedented attack on the Murdoch publishing group.
Harris' wide-ranging statement attacked the alleged illegal targeting of himself and fellow former Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes by the tabloid and its boss, and the ensuing cover up.
In an unprecedented move, Harris not only named The Sun and Rebekah Brooks in his statement, but also lifted the veil on why so many claimants in the ongoing phone hacking litigation are compelled to reach a settlement with the publisher, rather than going to trial: namely, to avoid financial ruin.
