Bogdan Raczynski is awkward, obtuse, the original square peg struggling to get out of his round hole. And that is why we love him so. This release has taken longer than it should have done to emerge into the light for complicated but very good reasons which we’re not going to go into here. For was it not Raczynski himself who proclaimed: “information is an affront to expression, a death knell to spontaneity”? Easy enough for him to say, he should try living in my brain for a day, good grief. If your average AI supercomputer is a churning fountain of zeroes and ones, beautiful binary streams flowing through futuristic neural pathways, then MY head is like an abandoned store room in the basement of a closed down record shop - it’s dark, it’s dusty, it’s crammed floor-to-ceiling with catalogue numbers, names of bass guitarists, etchings from run-out grooves, tangential connections, analogue gunk clogged in mildewed corners, half-remembered raves, snapshot images appearing in non-chronological order, glimpsed briefly through a faulty strobe. The new Bogdan Raczynski album Slow Down Stupid, ‘out’ now. PWYC. Are these slowed down versions of tracks from You’re Only Young Once But You Can Be Stupid Forever? Are these something entirely new? Is one track stretched out to the point of absolute absurdity? Should you listen to these tracks on a loop for infinity? Only YOU, the listener, can decide. You are Slow Down. Displaced commentary for displaced times. Deconstructed. Decnstrcccttttt. Dstrctn. Distractions, one-sided abstra###tions. Everything versioned forever, ever more degraded and disappearing beneath the paste-on layers. FREE PALESTINE, ABOLISH ICE, SAY NO TO THE CAPITALIST DEATH MACHINE (including this).
