Vertical Aerospace has completed the world’s first airport-to-airport piloted flight by a full-scale, winged tilt-rotor eVTOL designed for commercial service.

Following Flight Conditions and Permit to Fly approvals from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the VX4 prototype flew 17 miles from Vertical’s Flight Test Center at Cotswold Airport, to RAF Fairford. It reached speeds of 115mph and flew at an altitude of 1,800ft.

The milestone also marked the aircraft’s first landing at a public location. It will now be on display at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), the world’s largest military air show, from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday, July 20th.

“BETA Technologies Improves Aviation Training with Scalable Display.”

BETA Technologies recently announced it has improved its aviation training with an advanced scalable display, reports a press release. As part of the company’s commitment to safety, BETA has developed cutting-edge training simulators to ensure pilots receive the highest level of preparation.

The release explains, “Most simulators with an extended or dual curvature field-of-view use multiple projectors to cover the display area. This increases the overall resolution and immersion of the user by covering their full field of view with eye-limited pixel density.”

Poland: “Jetson to the Rescue!”

Rather like Thunderbirds, personal flying vehicle manufacturer, Jetson, recently carried out real-world mountain rescue simulations alongside Poland’s emergency response team. This is believed to be Europe’s first mountain rescue trial using a personal eVTOL.

Jetson, a formerly Swedish-based startup developing single-seat eVTOLs, tested two production-ready Jetson ONE flying vehicles in the Tatra mountain region of southern Poland. The trials were hosted by GOPR (Górskie Ochotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe), the country’s volunteer-led mountain rescue organisation.
