Ìrun (blue)

Oil Painting
Prints Available

This painting represents my childhood memories of hair.
Every Sunday afternoon having to endure the hot fiery scalp discomfort, represented in two levels/parts, first Ìrun (red).

Second, Ìrun (blue) represents the after effects; getting my hair freshly braided and a small breeze's gentle touch would instantly evoke a cold shudder, heightening my sensitivity and kindling a longing for sleep, if only to briefly alleviate the resulting discomfort.

This painting represents my childhood memories of hair.
Every Sunday afternoon having to endure the necessary hot fiery scalp discomfort that is…Hair Day.
When I look at this piece, it encompasses that discomfort.

I wonder what this would make others feel.

Presenting Àdìre, Yellow Sand

Àdìre, a Yorùbá word meaning tied and dyed or tied and soaked.
It’s a traditional Nigerian indigo-dyed cotton cloth decorated using various resist Printing techniques.

The technique has inspired this piece.
Hand-Tuft rug made using hand-dyed wool yarn.
The design mimics the imagined effect of wax poured onto the sand, creating a rich contrast of colour and texture.
