Damilola Taylor would have been 33
today. The community will never forget him.
This evening the Peckham community gathered with his family to light up Peckham Library with Damilola's smile and remember him and the importance of bringing hope & opportunity to all our young people❤️
For those who may not know, on 27 November 2000, Damilola set off for home from his studies at Peckham Library. He was captured on CCTV as he walked away. Sadly, he never reached home alive. Instead, Damilola was tragically killed in a senseless act of violence by two boys aged 12 and 13.
After three long trials, Damilola’s killers were finally brought to justice. Damilola’s death raised many questions including what leads young people to commit such acts of violence.
We must continue to raise and teach our younger generations that violence is not the way.
