🌍The United Nations (UN) was set up in 1945.

Goal: to prevent another global conflict.

Today, it has 193 member countries (99.5% of global population).

The General Assembly (GA) is the main discussion forum. In the GA, all member states are represented equally: each country has 1 vote.

The GA discusses global issues and adopts resolutions, but these are non-binding, meaning there is no real requirement to follow them.

It also approves the UN budget, and elects members to other UN bodies.

Which countries hold the most Bitcoin?

As of 2025, the United States, China, and the UK top the list of national Bitcoin reserves.

El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021, holds just over 6,000 BTC — now valued at nearly $500 million.

Elected with 53% of the vote in 2019, Nayib Bukele pledged reforms across crime, public services, foreign policy, and the economy of El Salvador.

So far, his administration has met goals in crime reduction, healthcare and foreign policy, while progress on infrastructure remains mixed.

Anti-corruption efforts and economic performance have faced setbacks.

Also, there are growing concerns about his efforts to centralise power.

Murder rates in El Salvador have fallen since 2018.

After President Nayib Bukele took office in 2019, homicide rates fell from 38 per 100,000 people to 1.9 in 2024.

A turning point came in 2022 when the government declared a state of emergency and launched mass arrests targeting criminal gangs.

Over 83,000 people were detained, which is equivalent to 1.5 percent of the population.

📊 Liquified Natural Gas (LNG): Global Trade

As of 2024, the United States leads the world in liquified natural gas (LNG) export capacity, with 92.9 billion metric tons, followed by Australia and Qatar.

On the import side, China, Japan, and South Korea remain the top buyers, together accounting for a significant share of global LNG demand in 2023.

Who is buying Russian oil after sanctions? 🛢️

Since the G7 oil price cap took effect in December 2022, Russia has redirected most of its crude exports to Asia.

China accounted for 47 percent of Russian crude oil exports between December 2022 and January 2025.

India follows with 37 percent. The EU and Turkey each took 6 percent.

To keep oil sales flowing, Russia offered discounts — between 10 to 30 percent in early 2023, narrowing to around 6 percent by 2025.

📉 Russian gas imports by the EU, 2022–2024

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, EU gas imports from Russia held steady for three months, then dropped by 70% by July 2022. Since then, volumes have remained relatively stable at a lower level.

As of late 2024, Europe continues to import around one-third of its pre-war Russian gas volumes — equivalent to roughly 15% of its total demand.

Global energy investments have shifted. Let’s look at the data. 📊

• In 2016, clean energy investment overtook fossil fuels for the first time.
• By 2020, fossil fuel spending hit a historic low during the pandemic. Since then, both have increased — but clean energy is clearly pulling ahead.
• In 2024, clean energy investment is expected to reach nearly $2 trillion, nearly double the investment in fossil fuels.
