After a series of analyses and careful scrutiny, the delegation of mayendit to the Nuer Youth Union (NUYU) has reconsidered its relationship with our longstanding allies within Unity State–Bentiu and across the 16 counties.

Following these consultations, the delegation has endorsed Duop Simon Thak for the position of NUYU Secretary for Finance.

We wish Comrade Duop Simon Thak all the best in his aspiration and hope that his leadership will contribute positively to the unity, progress, and development of the Nuer youth.

I have learned with great dismay about a very abusive clip recorded by Mrs Nyakuan Palata. This piece of writing is to unequivocally distance myself and the entire Leek Community from such deleterious content, and to condemn Mrs Nyakuan Palata in a very strong terms possible.

Alongside being my maternal uncles, the Bul community has an indelible contribution to my political career. They are among those pushing me up the leadership ladder. Such immense contribution can not be watered down on my watch. Leaders from Bul snd leaders from Leek are comrades, colleagues, and one team with one clear vision of uniting and serving our people under the leadership of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Furthermore, the Bul and Leek communities have been peacefully coexisting since creation, and they will continue to do so as long as mankind exists. There is no amount of hate that will erase this divine reality.

Leek Community are known of their civility throughout South Sudan; that is why the State Headquarters has been residing on Leek's soil for centuries, with all the Unity State citizens living in it. Trying to drag this peaceful community into a senseless feud is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I therefore seize this opportunity to condemn Mrs Nyakuan Palata's abusive video clip in the strongest terms possible. I cautioned Nyakuan to desist and stop spreading harmful messages that can potentially lead to character assassination of leaders and promote the breakdown of our hard-won social fabric. Failure to do so will only attract legal prosecution. Character assassination, hate speech, communities incittement, and spreading abusive content are court cases even in the UK, where she resides. She should opt to stop, or else the law will take its due course, which will lead to her deportation to South Sudan.

I implore our good people from Bul and other communities not to treat her petulant views with utmost contempt. She doesn't in any way speak for Leek nor myself. Her content does not reflect my leadership track record. I have been one of those in the front, toiling to unite our struggling communities as a prerequisite for a united yet prosperous South Sudan.

Announcement!

Dear all,
I take this space and time to share with you this evening that i am backing down from contesting for the Presidency of NUYU for the year 2026-2028.
As you have noted it months or days ago, I indeed shown interest and had the intention to contest for very many compelling reasons —coz i understood that there are enormous issues facing the Nuer Youth and Naath community at large. From insecurities in the Nuerland, to massive displacement and destruction of both properties and lives, absence of healthcare and schools as well as employment or scholarship opportunities for Nuer Graduates or Youth in the city. These are some of the most profound challenges facing Nuer Youth that push me to reach out to you all— as i have demonstrated exceptionally well that a solution-oriented leader as myself can face and tackle every problem facing my community.
I was more than ready to offer myself to take up the task to help curb or solve some of these challenges facing the Nuer Youth from where the former leadership stopped— given the vast experiences and social or academic networks I put together for years of services.
My manifesto was centred on actionable initiatives, including office for the Union and Youth Friendly spaces equipped with modern library and Naath Studio to host podcast that would tells and sells our rich culture and traditions, as well as conferences that would bring us together and brainstorm on meaningful projects to help us out. So on and so forth.

Henceforth, my intentions to contest for the top seat of the union has been met with lots of obstacles beyond my expectations— and I hereby decided to step aside, and wait for the right time to serve the Nuer Youth, although I know that I am the favourite and most preferred candidate in this convention.
I will still serve Naath without a title, as I wasn't looking for a title, but courage to serve them with the skills and other valuable leadership experiences i gathered.

Vote of thanks to everyone out there, the delegates, Chairpersons of the 16 counties of Naath Youth Leaderships, elders, mothers, youth, those who pledged to give me their moral, material, social, as well as political supports, i felt the amount of support and love you poured out for me in the short time I shared my intentions to be the President of Nuer Youth Union, but God's plans is above human's. Next time better.

I wish the Nuer Youth Union all the best in the processes ahead. I still urge everyone to put Naath First before political affiliations and personal interests, coz no matter what one does or where one is, we still face with the same common problem as Naath. We must try all means to let go of our differences and unite as Naath— to be able to confront and solve the challenges facing us.

MAYIANDIT YOUTH COUNCIL SUSPENDS CHAIRPERSON, APPOINTS DEPUTY AS ACTING CHAIRPERSON

Juba, South Sudan — 19 August 2026: The Mayiandit Youth Council has announced the immediate suspension of the Chairperson of the Mayiandit Youth Association, Mr. Paulino Puot Maloth, pending a formal investigation into alleged serious misconduct and violations of the Association’s Constitution.

According to an official directive issued by the Office of the Speaker of the Mayiandit Youth Council, the suspension was made pursuant to powers vested in the Council under Articles 2.5(f) and 2.5(g) of the Association’s Constitution.

The Council stated that the decision followed preliminary findings concerning alleged violations of the Association’s governing principles. The suspension will remain in effect until the conclusion of the investigation and a final decision is rendered.

Deputy Appointed Acting Chairperson

To ensure continuity of leadership and administrative stability, the Council has approved the Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Dak Malual Luony, to serve as Acting Chairperson throughout the suspension period.

The directive states that the Acting Chairperson will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the office, subject to the oversight of the Council, until the investigation is resolved.

Council Calls for Cooperation

The Mayiandit Youth Council described the decision as binding within the framework of its Constitution and called upon members of the Executive Committee, the General Assembly and the general public to cooperate with the Acting Chairperson.

The Council further reaffirmed its commitment to rule of law, transparency, unity and the maintenance of order within the Mayiandit Youth Association.

The directive was issued and signed by John Bӧth Biel, Speaker of the Mayiandit Youth Council, on 19 August 2026.

Dear Nuer community, esteemed elders, distinguished youth delegates, friends, and colleagues, ladies and gentlemen.

As in the quote of JF Kennedy "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country."

It is with great pleasure and honor that I, _Gatbel Yuong Riak Reat_ , hereby declare my candidacy for the Chairmanship of the Nuer Youths Union in Juba, South Sudan, for the term 2026-2028.
