"My First Field Survey Experience – A Call to Support Displaced Families in Rural Shendi"
> In late October, our village, Deem Al-Garay in rural Shendi, received over 1,000 displaced individuals from Al-Jazira state, and the numbers continue to rise.
Through local and individual efforts, the "People of the Homeland Initiative" was established to support these families and provide urgent assistance.
Yesterday, I was part of a field survey team that visited Al-Khatibab village, which has taken in many displaced families from eastern Al-Jazira, especially from Tamboul, a town approximately 193 kilometers from Shendi. On this journey, we encountered families who had lost everything and are now facing severe hardships, exhaustion, illness, and a profound loss of hope.
Along with my colleague, we registered over 15 families, most of whom were women and children, as well as a significant number of widows and critical cases, including 10 pregnant women urgently needing healthcare.
Most families are staying in host homes that lack even the most basic living necessities: they sleep on the bare ground, without beds, mattresses, or essential services. Despite the difficulties, I sensed a deep resilience and gratitude in them for simply being safe.
⛔Urgent Needs:
▪︎Medical care for pregnant women and children
▪︎Provision of food and water
▪︎Tents, beds, and clothing
▪︎Medications for those with chronic conditions
>Our initiative has raised one million Sudanese pounds (less than 600 USD) to cover basic needs, but this amount is insufficient to address the scale of the crisis.
We call on humanitarian organizations to support our efforts and provide the essential resources needed for the displaced in the Nile River State, where communities suffer from neglect and a lack of support.
>This was my first time interacting directly with displaced people, and the situation was deeply saddening and distressing😞.
Beyond listing their needs, I was recording their hopes—hopes for stability, access to essential resources, and for their children to resume their education.
“Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant” (Az-Zumar: 36).
We hope for compassionate souls to help alleviate their hardship.🙏🏻
Alhamdulillah, who has fed us, given us drink, and provided us shelter, for there are many who lack these blessings🤍.
