The European Accessibility Act (EAA) becomes applicable this saturday across the EU. From this week on the 28th of June, digital accessibility is no longer just a best practice but it’s a legal requirement across the EU.
As businesses gear up for compliance, we asked Faiza, our Head of Test & QA at Bombayworks, to answer four key questions on risks, tools, and where to start.👇Here's what she shared.
1. What happens if companies don’t comply with the EAA?
Non-compliance can lead to fines, blocked product launches, and even market removal. It also risks damaging your brand reputation. Accessibility isn’t optional anymore, it’s a business critical requirement.
2. Are automated tools enough to meet EAA requirements?
No. We typically follow a 30% automation, 70% manual testing approach. Tools are great for quick checks, but most accessibility issues like screen reader behavior, focus order, or form validation need human judgment. Automation alone won’t get you EAA compliant.
3. Can accessibility help my brand?
Definitely. It builds trust, loyalty, and opens your brand to 87M+ users with disabilities in the EU. Accessibility isn’t just compliance it’s good design and smart business.
