More than a decade after its dissolution, Ljuset returns. What began in 2010 as a black metal band formed in youth has, over time, revealed itself as something enduring: a spiritual and creative bond between Simon Johansson (Bhleg) and Emanuel Tägil, shaped by distance, silence, and eventual rekindling.

The reactivation came in 2025, sparked by renewed contact between its members. What followed was a period of focused creativity, with Johansson composing the music and Tägil developing the lyrics in close dialogue. Elements from early Ljuset demos were revisited and woven into the new material, further anchoring the present manifestation in the past.

“Ljuset” is a genre-defying and spiritually contemplative rock album, steeped in Swedish musical heritage. The lyrical tradition of Carl Michael Bellman, the introspective currents of post-punk, the melodic sensibility of Swedish indie, and the ferocity of Scandinavian metal converge here. Gentle passages give way to intensity, melody dissolves into texture, and the vocals move freely between clarity and abstraction. Session drums by Dennis Skoglund lend physical weight to songs centred on kinship, mutiny, mysticism, and perseverance – carried as much by feeling as by form.

It’s now been a year since we restarted Ljuset. During that time, we haven’t only created our first full-length album and begun rehearsing for live performances (and more), but also regained our friendship and rediscovered the inexhaustible source of inspiration and creativity we first found in our teenage years.

Structured around two repeating chords, the track embraces simplicity as a means of depth. Layers of spacious, melodic guitar textures move against a steady rhythmic foundation, forming a dynamic where upward and downward motion coexist. Rather than building toward resolution, “Nyckeln” settles into a continuous state of equilibrium.

This balance is central to the song’s thematic core. Where traditional spiritual frameworks often describe opposing forces in conflict, “Nyckeln” presents them as inseparable aspects of the same whole – not something to overcome, but something to inhabit.

Emanuel commented:

This song is about non-dualistic spirituality. In many traditions, including Christian mysticism, there is an idea of two opposing forces acting on the human soul – one pulling upward toward the divine, the other downward toward the earthly.

“Vännen” (‘The Friend’) is the second single from the upcoming debut album by Sweden’s Ljuset, set for release on June 12, 2026.

“Vännen” picks up where its predecessor, “Draken”, left off, deepening Ljuset’s exploration of the inner landscape. The track carries a dual nature – at once playful and aggressive, moving with the immediacy of a distorted pop impulse while refusing to settle into any fixed form.

Musically, “Vännen” shifts between clean vocal passages and visceral shrieks, mirroring its thematic focus on dissolution and transition. Beneath the surface lies a meditation on ego death, sleep paralysis, and out-of-body experience – a state where the boundary between self and other begins to dissolve.

Guided by the same symbolic presence introduced in “Draken”, the voice of the ‘friend’ emerges once more: a primal companion, urging the listener to leave the familiar behind and step into the unknown.

Simon commented:

Like “Draken”, this song has its roots in 2013, but wasn’t completed until 2025. It’s a playful yet aggressive ‘pop’ piece, though like the rest of the album, it moves beyond traditional genre boundaries. For me, it’s all about the flow – when and how the music comes. Everything that sits behind it, beyond it, under it, above it… and the feeling of it coming through me.

Jordan Day’s vinyl debut gathers songs recorded over several years, tracing the evolution of a songwriter shaped by introspection and shifting inspirations. Dark and reflective, the album contemplates life, love, addiction, and spiritual unrest, moving between stark minimalism and fragile glimpses of light.

Recorded through primitive means, the stripped-down sound pays quiet tribute to songwriters of the past. Guest contributions were recorded remotely and the material was mixed and mastered by Charlie Anderson.

Featuring Andrea Morgan (Exulansis, Weft), Charlie Anderson (Weft, Panopticon), and Austin Lunn (Panopticon, Weft, Ahamkara), the album also marks the first release of Laurentian Folk, a subdivision of Bindrune Recordings dedicated to dark folk and country music.
