At Onitsha, creativity is the currency. A young Chinedu learned the art of trading from his father, who ran a small stall selling household goods. But Chinedu had bigger dreams. He wanted to take his family’s business global. One day, while helping his father, he noticed how customers loved his jokes and stories. He started using jokes to sell, and it worked like magic. People didn’t just buy—they stayed to laugh and chat.

Encouraged by his success, Chinedu decided to expand. He saved up some money and borrowed from his uncle, promising to double the investment. But instead of buying more goods, Chinedu got carried away. He spent half the money on a flashy signboard that read “Chinedu’s Laugh & Buy Emporium” and the other half on a DJ to attract customers. The first day was a hit—people came for the music and stayed for the jokes. But when it was time to restock, Chinedu realized he had no money left.

His father found out and nearly fainted. “You spent all the money on a sign and a DJ?!” he yelled. Chinedu, ever the optimist, replied, “Papa, at least we’re famous now!” Miserable but determined, Chinedu started selling the DJ’s speakers to restock the stall. Lesson learned: even in business, don’t let the joke be on you!

A few days later, Sade and Dabira received a letter from a prestigious law firm in Lagos. The letter informed them of a significant inheritance from Dabira's estranged uncle, whom they barely knew. Intrigued and somewhat suspicious, the couple decided to visit the lawyer, Barrister Bojuri, to learn more about the inheritance.

At the lawyer's office, they discovered that Dabira's uncle had left behind a vast estate, including a grand mansion, a thriving business, and a considerable sum of money. However, there was a catch—the inheritance came from certain words often chanted by family praise singers. These words, when put together, form instructions to unlock the full potential of the estate. The couple decided to stay in the mansion to uncover the hidden secrets.

Shadowed Inheritance, Chapter 1

One cold morning, Sade and Dabira awoke to an odd sight in their backyard. Five wrapped pap bundles and a freshly chopped goat's head, dusted with crimson palm oil, were placed in a traditional earthen bowl.

Dabira chose to look into the significance of the sacrifice because he was shocked and perplexed by what he saw. They had no idea that this was only the start of a more complex mystery connected to their family's history.
