At Onitsha, creativity is the currency. A young Chinedu learned the art of trading from his father, who ran a small stall selling household goods. But Chinedu had bigger dreams. He wanted to take his family’s business global. One day, while helping his father, he noticed how customers loved his jokes and stories. He started using jokes to sell, and it worked like magic. People didn’t just buy—they stayed to laugh and chat.

Encouraged by his success, Chinedu decided to expand. He saved up some money and borrowed from his uncle, promising to double the investment. But instead of buying more goods, Chinedu got carried away. He spent half the money on a flashy signboard that read “Chinedu’s Laugh & Buy Emporium” and the other half on a DJ to attract customers. The first day was a hit—people came for the music and stayed for the jokes. But when it was time to restock, Chinedu realized he had no money left.

His father found out and nearly fainted. “You spent all the money on a sign and a DJ?!” he yelled. Chinedu, ever the optimist, replied, “Papa, at least we’re famous now!” Miserable but determined, Chinedu started selling the DJ’s speakers to restock the stall. Lesson learned: even in business, don’t let the joke be on you!
