New release: NOAH (Joan Vilà)

Original score from the 2025 documentary feature film directed by Louise Brix Andersen, produced by BSGlobalTV, Limmat Films and RTVE.

THE STORY: Noah, 26, fights seven rare incurable diseases, transforming her struggle into a story of resilience and medical progress. Her experience highlights how crucial robust healthcare is for complex medical cases.

THE SCORE: “The biggest challenge in composing the score for this documentary was to create music that avoided easy dramatization and remained as respectful as possible to Noah’s story. I wanted the music to express her emotional journey while also revealing who she was — from her activist spirit to her most intimate and difficult moments. The goal was to write a score that was mostly emotional and nostalgic, but above all filled with light and hope.” – Joan Vilà

THE COMPOSER: Born in Barcelona, Joan has been active in the film music scene since 2014. He is known for his work on the feature films Y todos arderán, Quién eres, Blue Rai, Capa Negra, L’amant del silenci, Verano Rojo and Desmuntant Leonardo and more than 30 short films. He is a Terror Molins International Horror Film Festival winner for Y todos arderán, Hollywood Music in Media Award Winner for Quién eres (released by Movie Score Media in 2020) and a Jerry Goldsmith Award Winner for Macarrones con tomate, among other international recognitions.

New releases: A FRIEND OF DOROTHY & LARGO (Stuart Hancock)

A FRIEND OF DOROTHY: Original score from the 2025 drama comedy short directed by Lee Knight, starring Miriam Margolyes, Alistair Nwachukwu and Stephen Fry, produced by Filthy Gorgeous Productions, A Marlow’s Production, Double Dice Films and Namesake Films.

THE STORY: A lonely widow’s quiet life is upended when a teenage boy accidentally kicks his football into her garden.

THE SCORE: “In this film, an unlikely friendship blossoms in a sensitive portrayal of connection across generations. The chamber score is performed by solo string players, and accompanies JJ’s tentative discoveries about both himself and his new friend, eventually expanding into an uplifting central montage sequence capturing the two leads’ joy in each other’s company.” – Stuart Hancock

LARGO: Original score from the 2025 drama short directed by Max Burgoyne-Moore and Salvatore Scarpa, starring Tamsin Greig, Kevin McNally and Roy Taylor, produced by Slick Films, Plan Nine Pictures and Studio Goodluck.

THE STORY: A young Syrian refugee living in the UK without his parents decides to build a boat and sail home to find them.

THE SCORE: “The music is a meshing of east and west – Musa’s yearning theme is captured by the strains of the oud from his homeland, and his foster mother, the lonely widow Grace, by the sounds of a dirty Rhodes piano. Booming percussion and distorted pads accompany the tensions Musa encounters with the hostile locals, whilst the plaintive double-reed cor anglais, an instrument that straddles both cultures, gives us the sound “Largo”, the ramshackle boat that Musa turns in his perilous attempt to reunite with his parents. I was thrilled to collaborate and record with the London-based Syrian oud player Rihab Azar, whose performance gives the score an deep emotional connection to the story.” – Stuart Hancock

THE COMPOSER: Stuart Hancock is a British composer, known for his music for the BBC fantasy drama Atlantis, the Channel 4’s animated TV special We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and the Netflix comedy-horror Crazyhead. Stuart won an Ivors Classical Award in 2015 for his large-scale concert work Snapshot Songs, and has garnered considerable industry recognition for his commercial, documentary, TV and film music, including multiple Jerry Goldsmith Awards. Stuart, who studied at the London College of Music, maintains a varied composing career across all media. Raptures, his debut album of concert works, recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra, was released in 2019. Last year, MovieScore Media released the multi-award winning score for Kensuke’s Kingdom, the label’s eighth album collaboration with Hancock.

New release: BAGHDAD MESSI (Frédéric Vercheval)

Original score from the 2023 drama feature film directed by Sahim Omar Kalifa, starring Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah, Atheer Adel and Zahraa Ghandour, produced by A Team Productions, 10.80 Films, Column Film and Mitos Film, and released by The Searchers (Belgium).

THE STORY: In war-torn Iraq, a ten-year-old boy with a crippling injury has an unquenchable passion for football.

THE SCORE: “Baghdad Messi‘s music is a journey into the heart of Hamoudi’s feelings, this passionate young boy whose innocence and dreams are shattered by the violence of men. Our goal with director Sahim Omar Kalifa was to capture this contrast between the harshness of war and the resilience of childhood. The musical narrative, through its contrasts marked by the gentleness of the strings, the poetry of the duduk and oud, and the rhythmic percussion, takes us on a journey into the heart of Hamoudi’s emotions. The score, with its broad, Eastern influences, represents landscapes, the desert, the heat, but also the innocence of childhood, loss, mourning, and love. It was a truly international experience, recorded in Budapest with the magnificent Hungarian Studio Orchestra and in Brussels for the solo instruments. I had the immense privilege of collaborating with exceptional musicians. Vardan Hovanissian’s duduk soars above the whole, creating a link between the landscapes and the characters. Tristan Driessens’ oud, sometimes rhythmic, sometimes melodic, punctuates the narrative. These instruments converse with the depth of the strings, which convey innocence, love, but also grief. At times, percussion and darker textures recall the reality of an endless conflict. It is music about loss, but above all, about the unwavering hope that persists at the heart of the tragedy.” – Frédéric Vercheval

THE COMPOSER: Frédéric Vercheval was born in Brussels, Belgium. He started to play the keyboard at the age of eight, musician, composer and arranger of film music. Frédéric has composed the soundtracks for multiple feature films and has worked with Oscar-winning directors such as Bille August and Agnieszka Holland. He is president of the Belgian Screen Composer Guild. Frédéric Vercheval was nominated for the Magritte du cinéma for Best Original Score five times for Diamant 13, Krach, Pas son genre, Melody and Chez Nous. His soundtrack for the film Duelles won a World Soundtrack Award in 2019 and a Magritte du Cinema for best original score in 2020. MovieScore Media released his scores for The Pact, Les volets verts and Green Border.

New release: SELF-HELP (Haim Mazar)

Original score from the 2025 horror thriller feature film directed by Erik Bloomquist, starring Jake Weber, Landry Bender and Madison Lintz, produced by Mainframe Pictures and released by Cineverse Entertainment (USA).

THE STORY: A young woman infiltrates a dangerous self-actualization community after her mother becomes entangled with its enigmatic leader.

THE SCORE: “Self-Help marks my second collaboration with Erik and Carson Bloomquist, following our first project together, their short film She Came from the Woods. From the beginning, we wanted the music to live in the uneasy space between healing and horror, where comfort and dread constantly intertwine. Olivia’s theme grows out of the on-screen guitar she plays in the film, a simple motif that becomes a voice for both her inner world and her friendship with Sophie. We built the score around that idea, blending the familiar warmth of acoustic instruments with something much darker and more unsettling. The palette includes processed acoustics, low drones, tension strings, and layers of cello (which I performed and manipulated), fused with intricate sound design to create an atmosphere that feels intimate yet ominous. Pulsating, rhythmic textures drive the flashback and action sequences, amplifying the story’s heartbeat and heightening its sense of anxiety and inevitability. The relationship between Olivia and her mother, Rebecca, is echoed through female vocal textures, manipulated and fragmented into chaotic layers to reflect Rebecca’s emotional descent and the haunting pull of the cult. While a few moments offer emotional stillness, the score ultimately reflects our shared intent: to explore fear, trust, and the haunting question of what it truly means to be saved.” – Haim Mazar

THE COMPOSER: Composer Haim Mazar is best known for his critically acclaimed score for The Iceman, a biopic thriller starring Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, James Franco, and Chris Evans. The film was an official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, and the Telluride Film Festival. His more recent credits include the West African-infused score for Jonathan Stein’s Out of the Village as well as the Bryan Singer-produced horror hit The Taking of Deborah Logan. His score for I Am Wrath, the action film starring John Travolta, was released by MovieScore Media in 2016. His other recent credits include Half Baked: Totally High, Rise and Desperation Road.
