New release: WRISTCUTTERS - A LOVE STORY (Bobby Johnston)

20th anniversary release of the original score from the 2006 drama comedy feature film directed by Goran Dukic, starring Will Arnett, Leslie Bibb and Abraham Benrubi, produced by No Matter Pictures, Crispy Films, Adam Sherman and Halcyon Films, released by Autonomous Films (USA), Halcyon Pictures (UK) and Kanibal Films Distribution (France).

THE STORY: People meet at a strange afterlife way station that has been reserved for people who have committed su***de.

THE SCORE: “For the original score to Wristcutters: A Love Story, director Goran Dukic wanted to have the instrumentation reflect the world of the film, which is set in a sort of purgatory afterlife reserved for people who have committed su***de. The characters live in a realm that is similar to their previous lives, but everything there is ‘a little worse’, so Goran wanted the music to sound as if it was being played on broken down, discarded instruments that nobody would want anymore. On this score, I used acoustic instruments exclusively and played everything myself – experimenting with treatments, preparations, and performance techniques to try to come up with a unique sonic palette for the film. Some of the more unusual instruments I used included bowed saw, blown bottles, prepared (and ruined) pianos, bamboo chimes, detuned banjo, and various stringed instruments played with mallets, bamboo skewers, bows, and wire brushes. I found this process endlessly inspiring and I become compelled by the idea of writing simple, beautiful music and performing it on flawed, imperfect instruments – which struck me as being much like people.” – Bobby Johnston

THE COMPOSER: Bobby Johnston is a Los Angeles-based film composer and multi-instrumentalist. His composing credits include original scores for directors Stuart Gordon, Larry Clark, Charlie Kaufman, Lee Shallat-Chemel, Drake Doremus, and Darren Lynn Bousman. In 2016, his score to the documentary City of Gold by Laura Gabbert was placed on several “best of” lists, including Apple/iTunes’ 25 Best Soundtrack Albums of the Year ( #13), and Nylon Magazine’s 8 Best Movie Scores of the Year (Summer, 2016). Johnston has composed original music for film, television, commercials, museum exhibits, and major theme parks (San Diego Zoo). His music has also been featured extensively on the popular radio program “This American Life”. Johnston’s recent credits include the acclaimed documentaries Bleed Out (HBO) and Shopping Cart People, for which his original score garnished several festival awards. His score for the documentary Death & Taxes was released by MovieScore Media’s documentary soundtrack label Reality Bytes last year.

New release: SEVEN SNIPERS (Mike Forst)

Original score from the 2026 action thriller feature film directed by Sandra Sciberras, starring Radha Mitchell, Tim Roth and Ioan Gruffudd, produced by Monster Pictures Studios, Filmbarr and Sandy Pictures, released by Well Go (USA) and Amazon Prime.

THE STORY: A retired sniper in hiding on an Australian ranch must reunite her elite kill squad when a vengeful warlord threatens her daughter.

THE SCORE: “I was pulled onto Seven Snipers two weeks after my daughter was born, and the timing shaped everything. I was learning what binds a parent to a new child, scoring a film about a mother fighting for her teenage one. I channeled that new connection straight into the work and let it run underneath a story about a bond tested by violence. Running on no sleep, I had no room to overthink. Every choice had to be made fast and committed to. Working it out in the moment between me, the director (Sandra Sciberras), and the producer (Tristan Barr), required a workflow that pushed the score into a sharper, more instinctive place than I’d ever gone before. Seven Snipers follows a retired sniper hiding out on an Australian ranch, forced to reunite her elite kill squad when a vengeful warlord comes for her daughter. The film lives in the dirt and the weeds, and in held breaths while reading the wind before a shot. I built the score around that grit and intensity. Tones that sit low and wait. Textures that tighten right before the trigger pulls. I wanted to treat the idea of wind, distance, and patience to function as characters through the music. I worked alongside Hayley Rosenthal again, who brought a fresh, unsentimental voice to the bond between a mother and her daughter, and pulled from my guitar-playing father (Tom “The Suit” Forst) and recordings of my two-week-old crying as source material to further inspire the parent-child bond.” – Mike Forst

THE COMPOSER: Mike Forst is an award-winning composer and sound designer based in Los Angeles. He is best known for his work on the Student Academy Award-winning film Skin, the multi-award-winning film Sonder, and his extensive work on pioneering first-of-their-kind products through interactive music and sound. Mike began his career at an audio-post house, primarily working on video games. He contributed to AAA titles like Insomniac Games’ Sunset Overdrive, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2, and Microsoft’s Crimson Dragon. After working on a wide range of projects and clients, he carved out a unique niche combining game-sound interactivity with emerging technologies, becoming a leading expert in User Experience (UX) Sound Design. Over the years he has worked at several tech startups and with major companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta. In 2018, Mike joined Amazon’s Lab126 as their sound lead for their first consumer robot, Astro. At Amazon, he collaborated with diverse teams, including engineers, producers, marketing, animation, and top executives including Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos. Mike left Amazon as a full-time employee in 2023 to focus on his primary passion: creating unique music for compelling narratives. Mike began playing piano at age 5 and formed original bands at 12, always seeking innovation and disrupting the norm in his music. He’s collaborated with top musicians and diverse artistic disciplines like modern dance and art installations. Recently, he released “Hypnagogia,” a concept album inspired by pandemic-induced auditory dreams.

New release: NEWBORN (Anthony Willis)

Original score from the 2026 drama thriller feature film directed by Nate Parker, starring David Oyelowo, Barry Pepper and Rukiya Bernard, produced by Mansa and Yoruba Saxon Productions, released by AMC Theatres (USA).

THE STORY: After serving seven years in solitary confinement, Chris Newborn seeks to rebuild his life and reconnect with his family only to find that freedom has become a terrifying psychological battleground.

THE SCORE: “Musically the world of solitary is deeply psychological and unforgiving. It is both stark and muted, but also expansive and intense to depict the harrowing depth of true isolation. Early in the process, director Nate Parker shared real life audio from solitary cells, inmates slamming on doors and windows, and so we wanted to emulate this in the score with aggressive metals, which rhythmically outline the shape of the family theme, but in desperation. As Chris works to leave this world behind, the family take a trip to Windor Peak, shot in the beautifully evocative Vancouver. In ‘Looking for Peace’ and ‘The Perfect Day’, he bonds with his son Jake and the score explores the warmth and intimacy of family life, a feeling of reconnection and coming home. Alas he is continually triggered by his surroundings and haunted hallucinations such as in ‘Visions of Prison’ and ‘Build, Cell, Run’ and begins to question everything around him. The trauma of his fathers’s absence has also manifested in Jake – he is unable to talk. Chris’s psychosis escalates, but ultimately leaves the resort to protect his family, knowing he cannot survive Solitary again. As he reaches the brink, he hears Jake cry a single word: ‘DAD!!!’, and the score finally reaches a moment of true emotional connection and clarity as he surrenders himself back into custody.” – Anthony Willis

THE COMPOSER: BAFTA-nominated composer Anthony Willis has taken a running leap into the Neverland of film scoring, quickly becoming one of the most highly sought after new voices in Hollywood. Anthony composed the score to Oscar-winning writer/director Emerald Fennell’s drama thriller Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan, which was nominated for Best Picture and earned Anthony a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Score. Emerald Fennell tapped him again to score her second directorial feature Saltburn which garnered him two WSA nominations, one SCL nomination, two HMMA nominations, and one BAFTA nomination for Best Original Score. Recently, Anthony wrote music for Wuthering Heights, which marks his third collaboration with Emerald. He is also responsible for scoring Gerard Johnstone’s hit M3GAN for Blumhouse and John-Michael Powell’s thriller Violent Ends. Anthony’s previous works include NBC/Universal’s How To Train Your Dragon: Homecoming holiday special, Sony Playstation’s video game Knack II, Michelle Morgan’s ‘Sundance Selection’ comedy It Happened in L.A., David Yarovesky’s thriller The Hive, where he collaborated with renowned DJ Steve Aoki, and Anthony Sabet’s nostalgic comedy One Last Night. As protege of Oscar-nominated composer John Powell, Anthony has contributed additional music to many of Hollywood’s major franchises including: How to Train your Dragon, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Jason Bourne and Rio. Willis grew up in London, and began his musical training as a chorister of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. He went on to study composition at Marlborough College, Wilshire and the University of Bristol, before earning his graduate degree from the University of Southern California. He currently resides in Venice Beach.

New release: TERRA ALTA (Arturo Cardelús)

HMMA Award Winner for Best TV Show Score (Foreign Language)

Original score from the 2025 drama television series directed by Eduard Cortés, starring Miguel Bernardeau, Marta Etura and Ivan Massagué, produced by Secuoya Studios and released by Movistar Plus (Spain).

THE STORY: Set in the rugged region of Terra Alta in Catalonia, the series follows Melchor Marín, a former delinquent turned police officer haunted by his past and driven by an obsession with justice. As he investigates a brutal crime, his personal history, family life and inner darkness collide in a story of loss, redemption and moral conflict.

THE SCORE: “Terra Alta is a dark and emotionally intense story, and from the very beginning I wanted to portray Melchor Marín through the sound of the cello. His arc is tragic and deeply human, and I felt the cello, especially in its lower register, could bring the melancholy, intimacy and emotional depth the character needed. The cello leitmotif travels throughout the score, constantly evolving with him as the story unfolds. At the same time, there is another essential side to Melchor: his family. They are the emotional counterweight to the darkness surrounding him and represent the light in his life. There are only a few cues devoted to that world, particularly ‘Familia’ and ‘No Quiero Perderte,’ but they are among the emotional pillars of the series. Musically, I wanted the score to move between raw intimacy and psychological tension, blending electronic textures with live instruments to create a sound world that felt both modern and deeply emotional.” – Arturo Cardelús

THE COMPOSER: Arturo Cardelús is a Spanish-American composer based in Los Angeles. A two-time Goya nominee, two-time IFMCA nominee, and three-time HMMA winner, he is known for scores including Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, Dragonkeeper, Disney’s Descendants, Netflix’s Call Me Francis and Black Beach, as well as the viral animated short In a Heartbeat. His concert work “Con Aire de Tango”, commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic Soloists, was released by Naxos. Born in Madrid, Spain, Cardelús studied at the Royal Academy of Music and Berklee College of Music.

New release: THE PEACE PARTICLE (Sam Thompson)

Original score from the 2025 documentary feature film directed by Alex Kiehl, produced by Featuristic Films and Telesgop (UK).

THE STORY: Black holes. The birth of the Internet. Nuclear devastation. The most consequential experiment in the history of humanity at CERN opened a Pandora’s box of new discoveries and unexpected problems.

THE SCORE: “It was vital to me that we approached this story as a human one inspired by science and not the other way round. The themes of peace, co-operation and mutual benefit feel increasingly important in our world today. The score needed to have heart and beauty to compliment the more industrial and scientific elements so a blend of orchestra, analogue synths and homemade, mechanical percussion felt right from the very beginning of writing. There are also darker moments in the film and I became interested in the half life of an atom and how that might sound – I was creating music for these moments that sounded like it was slowly decaying until it ultimately comes to a stop.” – Sam Thompson

THE COMPOSER: Sam Thompson is an Emmy-nominated film composer from Preston, Lancashire, UK. Best known for his scores for the BAFTA-winning comedy drama Juice, Emmy-nominated JFK: One Day in America, and his collaborative scores with Amelia Warner including the feature dramas Mr Malcolm’s List and Young Woman and the Sea, Sam is a sensitive and collaborative composer, specialising in contemporary orchestral, vocal composition and electronic scores. In television, Sam has grown an impressive list of credits including the TV-movie Plebs: Soldiers of Rome for ITV and the Netflix smash-hit S*x Education, for which Sam wrote additional music cues alongside Oli Julian. In feature films, Sam has scored Rise Films’ Mayor exemplifying his sensitivity to picture in a spine-tingling vocal-only score. He recently co-scored The Balloonists, also for Rise Films, alongside Nick Foster which is scheduled for cinema release in May this year. As part of Sam’s long-term collaboration with the composer Amelia Warner, Sam has co-scored Irish drama Kathleen Is Here directed by Eva Birthistle and Unidentified directed by Haifaa al-Mansour. Sam has orchestrated and conducted for large ensemble recordings including the scores for David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet II, PlayStation’s Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Sam has also provided additional orchestrations for Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ scores for Wind River, Kings and Mars. He has also written and conducted arrangements for artists such as The XX, Ellie Goulding, Lady Leshurr and Sophie Ellis Bextor, as well as conducting The Heritage Orchestra and Anna Calvi at the Burberry Fashion Show. As a commercial artist, Sam released his debut EP As Now the Light Retreats in 2021, and was asked to contribute to Deutsche Grammophon’s ‘Summer Tales’ compilation with a reworking of Pavane in 2022. Sam’s debut album ‘Roots’ is due for release in 2026 and he has recently produced Amelia Warner’s album ‘Halcyon’.
