Recurring international competition, for women and non-binary people writing music for male voice choir, hosted by Linköpings Studentsångare.

We are thrilled to finally announce the winner of Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award 2024, and the prize sum of 50'000 SEK granted to us by the Foundation of Märta Christina and Magnus Vahlquist.

Among our three finalists the jury has decided to award first place to Kari Telstad Sundet (right) for her composition "Velvet Shoes", with lyrics from Elinor Wylie's poem with the same name. Our greatest congratulations!

The jury's motivation
"Kari Telstad Sundet has composed the choral piece 'Velvet shoes', set to a poem by the American poet Elinor Wylie (1885–1928). The close-to-nature, emotional lyrics are nicely reflected in Telstad Sundet’s composition style.
The composition affirms the composer's feeling and respect for the male voice choir as an instrument. The beautiful, elaborate choral score is well suited for advanced choirs as well as for choirs striving to develop further."

Second place is awarded to Irma Åkesson (left) for their composition "Voeux Simples",
and third place is awarded to Hanna Blomberg (middle) for her composition "Who has seen the Wind?".

Thanks to all composers who have participated in this competition's third edition, and to the Foundation of Märta Christina and Magnus Vahlquist for making the competition possible!

We are already setting aim for the fourth edition of the competition set to take place in 2028. Dear followers of Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award,

We are pleased to present the esteemed jury who selected our three finalists and will ultimately decide the winner of the Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award 2024. The award, including a prize sum of 50'000 SEK, is generously funded by the Märta Christina and Magnus Vahlquist Foundation.

Singers' greetings!

We are very happy to finally announce the finalists of Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award!

We have had a blast singing through all the entries. Thank you to all who has participated, you are all truly amazing. We feel honored to recieve such fantastic and inspiring entries.

After a lot of deliberation, the jury has finally decided on the following finalists:

'Velvet shoes' by Kari Telstad Sundet
'Who has seen the wind?' by Hanna Blomberg
'Voeux simples' by Irma Åkesson

Dear composers,

A warm thank you for all your submissions to Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award 2024! We are now in the process of reviewing all the pieces and delivering them to our jury.

The jury process will begin shortly and the finalists will be announced on Den akademiska damkören Linnea's event Ett Knippe Kvinnokamp: Bakom Kulisserna on International Women's Day on the 8th of March.

The application period has now passed.

A great thanks to all the composers from all over the world who have applied to the competition! We are greatly looking forward to receiving your compositions, and we hope that composing your pieces will go well!

We would like to remind all applicants to pay the application fee of 350 SEK before December 1st. Details on how to do so are found in the e-mail sent to you when you were granted a spot in the competition.

A warm welcome to the 3rd edition of Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award, and to our official page where we will keep you updated on the current progress and events of Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award 2024!

Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award was first held in 2016, and is a competition for female and non-binary composers writing music for male voice choir. The winner of the competition will receive the grand prize of 50’000 SEK (~4’400 € or ~4’700 US$), have the opportunity of being published by Ejeby Förlag along with the runners-up, and have their composition performed at the competition award ceremony in Linköping in April/May of 2025. Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award 2024 is made possible thanks to a grant from the foundation of Märta Christina and Magnus Vahlquist.
