About the book:
Cyrus Shams is a young man grappling with an inheritance of violence and loss: his mother’s plane was shot down over the skies of the Persian Gulf in a senseless accident; and his father’s life in America was circumscribed by his work killing chickens at a factory farm in the Midwest. Cyrus is a drunk, an addict, and a poet, whose obsession with martyrs leads him to examine the mysteries of his past—toward an uncle who rode through Iranian battlefields dressed as the angel of death to inspire and comfort the dying, and toward his mother, through a painting discovered in a Brooklyn art gallery that suggests she may not have been who or what she seemed.

Kaveh Akbar’s Martyr! is a paean to how we spend our lives seeking meaning—in faith, art, ourselves, others.

One Tuesday a month PAGE 28 is inviting you to Malmö’s q***r book club, without pretension and pressure! It’s called Tisdagsklubben which means the Tuesday Club. On this evening, our bookstore will be transformed into a literary saloon where everyone who’s interested is welcome to come and discuss a chosen q***r book. PAGE 28 is proud to present a weekend with 75 SHOTS.

Since 2016, 75 SHOTS Pocket Cinema has amplified under‑represented q***r voices worldwide. They are dedicated to highlighting the strength, creativity, and resilience of courageous LGBTQ+ storytellers originally from the Global South, especially those working under censorship, criminalization, or forced displacement. Through inspiring and often suppressed stories, they program independent q***r films that are frequently silenced or overlooked altogether.


On November 18, starting 18:30, we will be meeting with the founder of 75 SHOTS, Karin Hazé, and select guests, at PAGE 28. We will discuss creating art while living under criminalization and oppression, and you will learn how just your phone can be turned into a cinematic tool for art, resistance, and connection.

On November 19, starting at 14:00 we will meet again at Hypnos Theatre for a screening of works from 75 SHOTS collection, many of which can only be seen in these closed contexts., and a Q&A (hopefully with some of the creators able to call in!)

Before the event on saturday, there will be a market held at PAGE 28 fundraising for the Dubbelexponerat Mutual Aid fund, directly supporting our BIPOC q***r community. Exact schedule and time-table to be announced. We look forward to seeing you there.
The events are free of charge, but you are highly encouraged to support with what you are able to, and all funds will go directly to supporting 75 SHOTS work.

Nuuuuuu jäääävlar är det oktober! Spooky season, äntligen!
Framför oss har vi en hel höst av att krypa upp med en lite lagom läskig bok och läsa när regnet slår på rutan. Och var inte oroliga, vi har massor med läskiga böcker.
Den här veckan har vi samlat ihop alla böcker om sapfiska vampyrer (en hel del visade det sig) så om det är din grej, kom och fynda!

This is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family’’s history that began before he was born. It tells of Vietnam, of the lasting impact of war, and of his family’’s struggle to forge a new future.

And it serves as a doorway into parts of Little Dog’’s life his mother has never known - episodes of bewilderment, fear and passion - all the while moving closer to an unforgettable revelation.
