Matej Rusmir was born in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2000, where he finished music school for classical guitar. Soon after, Matej started exploring audio production. Later, in 2016, as he began his career in the underground scene, Matej quickly gained recognition for his distinctive style, blending tribal techno with downtempo old-school trance and ethnic elements. His production, live and DJ sets are filled with hypnotic and tribal rhythms and motifs that draw the audience’s focus entirely to the sound.

Matej Rusmir is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the EU and Pro Helvetia.

Join us for two upcoming events in Malmö with our Artist in Residence, Nyokabi Kariũki – a Kenyan composer, sound artist and artistic researcher. Her sonic imagination is ever-evolving, spanning from classical contemporary to experimental electronic music, explorations in sound art, pop, film, (East) African musical traditions and more. She performs with the piano, voice, electronics, and on several instruments from the African continent — particularly on kalimbas and the mbira. She seeks to create meaningful and challenging art, illuminated by a commitment to the preservation of African thought, language and stories.

Black Archives Sweden

Nyokabi Kariũki shares research into the longstanding and inextricable relationship between the African body, movement, and soundmaking - both individually and communally. This workshop also invites participants to inquire about their own relationships to sound-making with their bodies.
