Most people applying for the Germany Job Seeker Visa don't realise they can be rejected not because of their qualifications — but because of how they present them.
Germany allows skilled professionals to come and job hunt in person for up to six months. You don't need a job offer before you arrive. That's the whole point of this visa. But the requirements are stricter than most people expect.
To qualify, you need:
✅ A bachelor's degree or higher that is recognised in Germany (check anabin.kmk.org — this is the official database)
✅ At least five years of professional work experience in your field
✅ Proof of financial means — roughly €1,027 per month for the duration of your stay
✅ Health insurance valid in Germany for the entire period
✅ A convincing cover letter explaining your job search plan — which country, which companies, which sector
That last point is where most applications fall apart. The German consulate wants to see that you have a realistic plan, not just a wish to go abroad. Generic letters get rejected. Specific ones get approved.
The application goes through the German consulate in Islamabad or Karachi. Processing usually takes 8 to 12 weeks. Book your appointment early — slots disappear fast.
⚠️ Your degree must be assessed through the APS certificate process before your consulate appointment. Skipping this step will waste months.
Once you're in Germany, you cannot extend this visa. If you get a job offer during the six months, you apply to convert it into a work permit from inside Germany — which is genuinely straightforward if your employer supports you.
