On the technical side I'll also add that these added effects like sub surface scattering (or SSS) takes time to render. Yes, there are other faster techniques for that but they are not as accurate.

Came up with this out of doodling. Thought up a story to this composition:

The visitor (to the right in view) from the outside world, is trying to mimic the sea creature (middle/left in view). A process of observation and mirroring.

Not to replace, but to communicate and learn.
