Rimsky-Korsakov - Flight of the Bumblebee
arr. Max Leth
Daniel Kåse & Daniel Norberg marimba
of Kungliga Filharmonikerna

Recorded at Konserthuset Stockholm

A true signature piece for showing off speed and technique, here arranged for two marimbas by Max Leth. This isn’t your ordinary performance… Two percussionists play on the same marimba, trade places, walk behind each other’s backs, play upside down, and still keep that bumblebee flying at full speed!

Why does music exist? What happens to us when we make or listen to music? In this series, we explore answers to these questions together with musicians, listeners and researchers.

Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata from Toccata and Fugue in d minor BWV 565

Ulf Norberg organ

Ulf is here playing the organ in Konserthuset Stockholm. The organ in is one of the largest and most impressive in Scandinavia, featuring 6,100 pipes and 69 stops. It was inaugurated in 1982 and is renowned for its magnificent façade and powerful sound, making it a centerpiece of the Main Hall. While it is among the largest organs in Stockholm and Scandinavia, it is not the absolute largest in the city—that title belongs to the organ in Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan), which has over 7,000 pipes. However, the Konserthuset organ remains iconic for its size, acoustics, and its role in major events like the Nobel Prize ceremonies

Johann Sebastian Bach - 4th mvmnt: Sarabande from Cello Suite No. 1 in C major BWV 1007

Marie Macleod cello

Did you know that for nearly 200 years, J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites gathered dust? They were seen as mere technical exercises, not concert-worthy masterpieces. Then, in 1889, a 13-year-old Pablo Casals stumbled upon a battered copy in a Barcelona music shop. Captivated, he studied them for years before performing them publicly, revealing their genius to the world.

Bach’s original manuscript? Still missing. But thanks to Casals, these suites became some of the most beloved music ever written. A story of neglect, discovery, and timeless beauty.
