Your Job is to Solve Problems

For Tanyka, stepping out of corporate life and becoming a founder comes down to one big shift: taking complete ownership of every problem. In corporate, when something goes wrong, you hand it off to IT or finance to fix. As a founder, every issue lands on your desk—no matter how much funding or process you have. You either fix it yourself or find the right person who can. Since the challenges never stop and can get pretty exhausting, she says success really comes down to resilience: taking things one week at a time, pushing through, and just staying in the game.

Cubbi launched in February 2024. About a year later, in early 2025, a producer reached out to Olivia and Tanyka Davson and asked if they’d come on Dragon’s Den.

Then, in May 2025, they filmed the episode JUST one week before Olivia gave birth to her second child. đŸ«¶

From Idea to Dragons Den

About a year after Cubbi’s initial February 2024 launch, a producer reached out on social media asking them to appear on Dragon's Den. They had spent that first year stepping back to rebuild and refine an app that wasn't originally built for scale. By May 2025, they filmed the episode—narrowly squeezing it in just a week before Tanyka's co-founder and sister, Olivia, gave birth to her second child.

BUILD EUROPEAN AI SOVEREIGNTY NOW

When you don't have access to the most powerful AI models in Europe, you're operating at a huge disadvantage that leaves you completely vulnerable if foreign tech companies decide to cut you off. Relying on outside tech giants means you have zero defense when restrictions hit, which is why supporting European tech isn't just an option anymore. You need to start backing local AI initiatives and companies that build independent solutions so Europe can control its own digital future.

A new episode is coming out this week!!!!! Been waiting for this one to drop. This time I spoke with the incredible Tanyka Davson, co-founder of Cubbi đŸ§žđŸŽ™ïžwhich is a UK’s first discount platform for parents.

"I think 5 years ago I thought that being a founder was for a certain type of person. And I don't believe that now. I think anyone could do it if they want to."

i couldn’t agree more with Tanyka on this. Almost every founder I speak with admits that they never saw themselves as the *founder type* until they JUST started. Today, Cubbi supports over 60,000 parents across the UK together with 450+ brand partners which goes to show what can happen when we challenge our self limiting beliefs.

in this weeks episode, we explore:

✹how Tanyka and her sister Olivia turned an idea into Cubbi and why they decided to finally go for it
✹why they built a simple MVP first and what 5,000 downloads in two weeks taught them
✹how going on Dragon’s Den 🐉 changed the business and what they learned about choosing the right investors
✹what becoming a founder actually looks like when it comes to resilience, burnout and knowing when to step away

If you’ve ever thought about starting a business but wondered if you’re the right person for it you’ll get a lot from this conversation.

A huge thank you to Tanyka for her honesty and insights. From the hard parts to the investors they turned down. It was a joy to hear how you and Olivia built this together.

CREATE FOR OTHERS NOT YOURSELF

If you want to build products or experiences that actually matter, you need to treat design as an intentional, selfless act. True design isn't about showing off your personal style or serving your own ego, it's about solving real problems for others and leaving things better than you found them. When you shift your focus toward creating value for the person on the receiving end, you elevate your work from simple aesthetics into something truly impactful.

When governments cut back on global aid and shift the burden onto corporations, you have to decide whether you're going to step up and help fill that gap. Private citizens and businesses shouldn't have to carry the whole weight, but waiting around for policy to fix these issues just leaves vulnerable people without support. If you want to see real impact, you need to actively take responsibility, support the causes you care about and push for change instead of expecting the government to do it for you.

BE STUBBORN ABOUT YOUR VISION

If you want to drive real change in your industry, you have to be relentless about your vision. You can't just be an manager who keeps the status quo moving, because building something meaningful requires you to become a true missionary for your idea. That means embracing a level of stubbornness when others doubt what you're doing, staying completely focused on your long term goals and pushing forward when the work gets tough. True leadership isn't about fitting in, it's about having the conviction to stand by your vision until you turn it into reality.

STOP LETTING AI THINK FOR YOU

If you're using AI like a standard search engine, you're slowly losing a key skill without even realizing it. When you used to search on Google, you had to analyze the links, filter out bad information and decide where to click yourself. Now, AI does all that thinking for you and hands you a pre-packaged answer that's often biased based on its training data. You're completely cutting out the analytical process and letting technology kill your critical thinking, so you need to start double checking what you see online instead of accepting every output as fact.
