"The kids are back cycling to fundraise for ‘Cycling Without Age’, a charity that seeks to fight social isolation among our elderly by taking them out on trishaw rides for some happy hours in scenic Singapore.
At a recent volunteer session with her mum, a few things motivated my niece Angie to re-start her fundraising campaign after a 2-year hiatus (Covid):
1. She’s grown a little taller! Angie’s petite but now tall enough to ride the Marshal’s bike. A Marshal’s job includes helping seniors board & disembark the trishaw, removing obstacles along the journey, conversing with seniors, taking photos, etc.
2. For this volunteer session at Jurong Lake Garden, Angie approached random families with seniors to take free trishaw rides. One Mr Jamall was so pleased with her service that he gave her $10. Thrilled, she decided to kickstart her ‘Cycle for Good’ 2023 fundraising campaign.
3. She told her bff and they decided to run the campaign together. Even her sister Christine who’s buried under a pile of exam revision papers agreed to find time to join in. They’ve named their team “Double A Batteries”. Their campaign tagline is “(em)Powering the seniors, One Charge at a Time, with a Trishaw ride.” (geddit 😂)
Will Angie reprise her former contribution as a top young fundraiser? With your help, perhaps. More importantly, support our seniors in fighting social isolation by funding ‘Cycling Without Age’ (a charity with IPC status, tax deduction.) "
