Beautiful piece from Pok Pok & Away!!😍
Peta Singapura III | 2023
It has been 9 years since I drew the first Peta Singapura illustration in 2014, over a span of 3-4 nights. A friend mentioned that Singapore has nothing much to draw compared to Europe when he saw a map I did of a trip to Europe then. The illustration incorporates the various layers of history, stories and memories in Singapore.
I remembered drawing the piece in 2014, it was like being a resident tourist, exploring Singapore as I drew it. 9 years later, re-drawing and revisiting this piece felt like a journey back in time. In the process, it was rediscovering Singapore, relieving memories of places close to heart and reflecting on the changes over the past 9 years.
One thing hasn't change is that for a tiny red dot, there is always something somewhere to draw, to be interested, in the form of wildlife, a long-gone kampong or a piece of architecture. The current version, which I started drawing on 21st June, is larger than the 2014 original, but there is still so much to capture on this tiny island.
The work is a personal work. I have been trying to commit to doing more personal works for this later half of the year and probably the next year as well.
This work would be made available as prints via Independent Market when it is ready.
