I have been rather quiet on social media these days because I decided to.
We spend our entire week staring at screens, completely disconnected from the people right in front of us.
We are so caught up in the hyper-productivity trap that we treat our weekends like another checklist. We feel this intense pressure to make our free time “perfect” or think a real reset requires booking a flight to escape reality. We scroll through our phones next to the people we love, physically present but mentally miles away.
This past weekend was a harsh reminder of what actually matters.
Two of my dad’s sisters came to visit, so we took them out to the Coach restaurant at Jewel Changi Airport. We just showed up, enjoyed our meal, even though we didn’t have a lot to talk about. It’s about being present and enjoyed our meal. 3 lobsters, 3 cakes, 6 coffees and one beautiful afternoon.
We live in a society that values constant hustle over deep, quiet connection. We had to unlearn the idea that quality time has to be an elaborate, over-scheduled escape.
Stop treating your loved ones like a weekend obligation. Put the phone down and protect those slow spaces with the people who keep you sane when the rest of the world gets too loud.
I will still continue to be on social but in the mean time, I want to be present. Don’t you?
