TO-JI TEMPLE

📍Kujocho, Minami Ward, Kyoto, Japan

Toji Temple (東寺, Tōji), literally "East Temple", was founded at the beginning of the Heian Period. It has Japan’s tallest pagoda and one of Kyoto’s many UNESCO World Heritage sites. During autumn season, its night illumination is one of the most popular attractions in all of Kyoto.

The temple is a short walking distance away from the main Kyoto Station.

Kyoto Station is a major transportation hub and a destination in itself, known for its modern architecture, extensive shopping, and dining options. It serves as a gateway to the rest of Japan via the Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train), while also providing local and regional transport through JR lines, subways, and a large bus terminal. The station building, designed by architect Hiroshi Hara, is one of Japan's largest and includes a department store, hotel, and a rooftop garden with city views.

FUJI-SAN IN FOCUS

Mount Fuji (富士山, Fujisan) is Japan's highest mountain at 3,776 meters. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped volcano has been worshiped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people throughout the centuries.

An active volcano, which most recently erupted in 1707, stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days.

Another easy way to view Mount Fuji is from the train on a trip between Tokyo and Osaka. If you take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo in the direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the best view of the mountain can be enjoyed from around Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40-45 minutes into the journey.
