Peranakan food isn't just a cuisine. It's memory. Its identity. It's the smell of rempah on a Sunday morning and a grandmother who never wrote anything down.

On 26 July, we're bringing that conversation to the table—and launching Terry Tan's Peranakan Classics to mark the moment.

Cookbook authors Terry Tan, Gerard Chai, and Tan Sri Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria come together to talk Peranakan cuisine, memory, and identity—moderated by Peter Yeoh of Hungryonion.org.

This panel is one of three happening across the day as part of the Baba Nyonya Literary Festival—a celebration of Peranakan culture through literature, with discussions spanning identity, the Peranakan home, material culture, and memoir.

🎟️ $40 · refreshments included
📅 26 July, Sunday · 1–6pm (this panel starts at 4.30pm)
📍 Gallery Theatre (Basement), National Museum of Singapore
Grab a copy of Terry Tan's Peranakan Classics at the festival bookstore. 🌺

Meet Anthony Chen—award-winning Singaporean writer, director, and producer, and one of the judges for the Epigram Books Fiction Prize 2026.

The Epigram Books Fiction Prize (EBFP) is Singapore’s most prestigious award for unpublished fiction — recognising bold, original voices in Singapore literature and giving them a real shot at publication.

When he’s not reading manuscripts, Anthony’s guilty pleasure is cookbooks. Nigella Lawson, Ottolenghi — he reads them, he cooks from them, and by his own account, he’s very good at it. (We believe him.)

📚 If you’ve been sitting on a manuscript, this is your sign.
Submissions for the Epigram Books Fiction Prize 2027 are open until 1 August 2026, 11:59pm SGT. Link in bio to find out more.

AFCC 2026 was a good one. ☀️

Author Vivian Teo launched Mikaela Kong: Return of the Dragons (Book 3!) to a room full of excited young readers, and Ng Yi-Sheng had the whole room glued to every story as he brought Raja Chulan, Sang Nila Utama, Badang and Hang Nadim to life.

Weather was its usual May self—fickle, hot, and very humid—but we survived on one mini fan and good company. 🙃

Shoutout to all the parents who discovered Catch Mee If You Can, Jemma Dreams of Sushi, and Elephants Live Upstairs!—and to those who put their SG Culture Pass credits to good use and went home with armfuls of picture books. That's what it's for!

Thanks for coming by the Epigram Books booth—see you at the next one!

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

Our first one was so good, we're doing it again. Bring a book, wrap it up and write some clues on the outside. No titles, no authors. Just enough to make someone curious. 🧀🥂 Cheese and fizzles provided.

This round, Edmund Wee—Founder & Publisher of Epigram Books—is hoping someone recommends him a book he loves. His pick of the night walks away with a collector's edition classic worth $100 from his personal collection. 📚✨
