🥢 Aburi Buta & Unagi Combo Jyu: A perfect pairing of melt-in-your-mouth pork belly and smoky, caramelized unagi. Each bite balances rich umami with a hint of sweetness!

🍣 Truffle Kaisen Bara Chirashi Don: Fresh, vibrant sashimi cubes tossed in truffle, bringing an earthy twist to this colorful bowl.

🍜 Wagyu Suji Udon: Tender, slow-cooked Wagyu in a warm, comforting udon soup. The broth is rich and beefy, while the wagyu tasted ok.

🍚 Iberico Hoho Don: Smoky grilled Iberico pork cheek on a bed of fluffy rice—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly charred for that signature aburi touch.

The Hainan Story has opened its 10th Outlet & 5th Coffee House Concept so far.
 Each outlet has its unique selling dishes.
Here are Exclusive to Tampines Mall:
1. Hainanese Creamy Cheese with House-made Pork and Shrimp Patty Bagel - if you like a soft bagel and has a “cheesy” palate, you can consider this.
2. Gourmet Bagel Sandwich with Avocado and Braised Pulled Pork - this can be a pleasant and alternative dish for breakfast if you are tired of the western-styled serving.
3. Hainanese Stir-Fried Glass Noodles with Pan Grilled Chicken Chop - to be honest, this is not too bad. It can be considered a healthy dish as the chicken is pan-grilled.
4. Strawberry Jam & Cold Butter Bagel - didn’t get to try
5. Hainanese Butter Chicken Delight - didn’t get to try

I also tried the Hainanes Three Treasures drink, which I kind of liked. As for the Swiss Roll and Butter Cake, to me, they are just the usual ones.

A Feast at Kokoyo – A Tribute to Grandma’s Legacy 🌺

Stepping into Kokoyo Traditional Peranakan Restaurant feels like a warm embrace from Chef Ernest Ang’s grandmother herself. Every dish here is more than just food—it’s a story, a piece of heritage, lovingly passed down through generations. 🌿

From the aromatic Nasi Lemak with its signature 10-spiced fried chicken to the tender Babi Pongteh, each bite is a journey into the rich tapestry of Peranakan flavors. While the sambal had a hint of bitterness for my palate, the Kuih Kosui was a delightful balance of sweetness and nostalgia, making it one of my favorites. ✨

The peppery Pig Stomach Soup brought a comforting spice, while the Teochew Fish Soup’s rich broth was marred only slightly by the fish’s mild fishiness. Even the tender Beef Rendang, though not my spice preference, spoke of the meticulous care in its preparation.

Kokoyo isn’t just a place to have comfort food—it’s a tribute, a celebration of a grandmother’s love, and a place where her legacy lives on in every dish. 🍴

Congee Review: Mui Kee Congee, Shaw Centre

A taste of Hong Kong at Mui Kee Congee 🇭🇰

If you’re craving authentic Hong Kong congee in Singapore, Mui Kee Congee at Shaw Centre offers a comforting bowl of nostalgia. The fish belly congee is loved for its silky-smooth texture, achieved after hours of slow cooking, and the added wok hei gives it that extra depth. However, some might find the fish slices too thick and occasionally bland. The congee is also not as flavorful as in the past. As for the beef noodles, made with the same rich broth, are generally well-received, though consistency can be an issue.   Overall, it’s a go-to spot for those looking to relive the classic congee experience!

All Day Breakfast Review: Wild Honey, Mandarin Gallery, Orchard, Singapore.

During my visit to Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery, I had the opportunity to try their “globally-inspired” all-day breakfast dishes: the Tokyo and the Jerusalem. While the ambiance of the renovated space was undeniably inviting, the food left me with mixed feelings.

TOKYO (Pork)
The Tokyo dish is a Japanese-style Okonomiyaki omelette that skillfully combines a variety of textures and flavors. The omelette itself is light and fluffy, with the cabbage, potato, and spring onion adding a pleasant crunch. The poached egg, nestled on top, is perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that enriches the dish when broken. The honey soy glazed pork belly is the star, offering a delightful contrast of sweetness and umami.

JERUSALEM (Lamb & Beef)
The Jerusalem, however, fell short of expectations. This dish features Shakshukit—a deconstructed lamb and beef kebab—served with tahi’gurt, pine nuts, pistachios, cured lemon, watercress pesto, harissa, olive tapenade, pita bread, and a chopped salad. While it’s visually appealing, the flavors didn’t quite come together as harmoniously as I had hoped. The lamb and beef kebab was tender, but the seasoning lacked the depth and warmth I anticipated. Despite being a recommended dish, the Jerusalem didn’t deliver the balanced and cohesive flavor profile I was looking for.

Final Thoughts
I would still recommend giving Wild Honey a try, perhaps exploring other dishes on their extensive menu.

Pizza Review: Fernando’s New York Slices, Trio Building, Singapore

With 4.9 Google reviews, so is this worth the try?

If you’re on the hunt for the best New York-style pizza in Singapore, look no further than Fernando’s New York Slices! This pizzeria brings the authentic taste of NYC right to our doorstep with its perfectly thin, crispy crusts and generous toppings.

We recently tried their half-half pizzas and have enjoyed the session together!

✨ The Trio - A delightful mix of pepperoni, sausage, and ham.

🍕 A Slice of Bleecker - Inspired by the iconic Bleecker Street in NYC, capturing the essence of a New York slice.

🍗 Grilled BBQ Chicken - Savory and smoky, with tender chicken pieces.

🍍 Hawaiian - Classic combo of sweet pineapple and savory ham.

🌿 Popeye’s Fave - Spinach lovers, this one’s for you! (it’s Vegan too)

🍖 Ham & Mushroom - A comforting and delicious choice.

But it’s not just about the pizzas! Their sides are equally impressive:

🔥 Wings - Well seasoned and crispy.

🍝 Meatballs - Juicy and flavorful, great as a side or on their own.

🧀 Lasagna - Rich, and cheesy.

Now, Fernando’s New York Slices boasts an impressive 4.9 rating on Google Reviews, but for me, it’s more of a 3.5. The pizza is slightly above average, with the typical New York-style thin, crispy crust and slightly chewy texture. Maybe New York pizza just isn’t my type. I find myself leaning towards Neapolitan-style pizza, known for its softer, more tender crust with a slight char, achieved by baking in wood-fired ovens.
