Want to experience the Little Red Dot like a local? In Singapore, you can pay to eat and drink with locals where they live? We tried these two home-based kitchens.

1. Guests gather at TJBBQ in Singapore's Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood – just six stops from Orchard MRT.

2. AT TJBBQ, meals start at S$148 per person, while the $168 Turf & Surf menu includes hickory-smoked wagyu tomahawk.

3. TJBBQ's chef-host is Ng Tiong Jin, a former photographer who began hosting curated barbecue dining meals for groups of up to 12 diners in 2023

4. In the residential area of Dover, The Drunken Chef's private dinner sessions range from S$98 per person (drinks not included). We tried a seven-course Chinese "zichar-" (cooked to order) inspired menu, with many dishes requiring intensive days-long preparations. That's seafood pao fan dish and crispy roasted pork belly.

5. Sherine Chua, runs The Drunken Chef from her home. She is a self-taught chef who has been cooking since she was 15.
