A BREAKTHROUGH IN SKIN CANCER TREATMENT?

Moderna and Merck have announced late-stage trial results for a personalised mRNA vaccine targeting melanoma — the deadliest form of skin cancer.

HOW IT WORKS:
Unlike a standard vaccine, this one is built specifically for each patient. Doctors take a sample of the patient's own surgically removed tumour, sequence its unique mutations, and use that data to create a vaccine tailored to recognise that specific cancer. Production takes around six weeks per patient.

WHAT HAPPENED:
The vaccine was tested alongside Merck's immunotherapy drug Keytruda in over 1,100 patients whose melanoma had already been surgically removed. The trial met its goals of reducing cancer recurrence and slowing its spread to other parts of the body.

WHY IT'S SIGNIFICANT:
This is the first mRNA-based cancer therapy to succeed at the late-stage trial level — a milestone for a technology best known for COVID-19 vaccines, now being tested in cancers beyond melanoma, including lung, breast and pancreatic cancer.

WORTH NOTING:
Results haven't yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal. They're set to be presented at an upcoming medical meeting and shared with regulators. Because each vaccine is made individually, cost and scalability remain open questions — Keytruda alone can run over $200,000 a year for some patients.

REPAIRING, NOT REPLACING
Regenerative Medicine: Moving Beyond Symptom Control

Modern medicine has spent decades fighting disease. Regenerative medicine takes a different approach — supporting the body's own repair systems before damage becomes irreversible.

WHY IT MATTERS NOW:
As Asia-Pacific ages rapidly, chronic conditions like osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease and metabolic decline are on the rise. Yet most healthcare systems are still built around symptom control, not biological restoration.

THE SCIENCE, SIMPLIFIED:
Stem cells act as the body's "seed cells" — repairing everyday wear and tear. As we age, that repair pool shrinks, and damage builds up faster than the body can fix it.

WHERE IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
✔️ Degenerative joint disease
✔️ Chronic inflammation & autoimmune conditions
✔️ Tissue injury and musculoskeletal degeneration
✔️ Patients unsuitable for surgery, seeking to delay invasive procedures

Clinicians are already seeing measurable results in patients: improved mobility, reduced pain, and greater independence.

THE MEDICINE OF REPAIR
Why Precision and Regenerative Medicine Are Redefining Healthcare

For decades, medicine has centred on identifying disease and suppressing symptoms. Precision and regenerative medicine are shifting that focus towards restoring function at a cellular level.

WHAT'S CHANGING:
Patients are living longer, but chronic inflammation, metabolic disease, hormonal imbalance and accelerated ageing are now dominant health concerns. Many clinicians argue conventional medicine often intervenes only after biological systems have already begun breaking down.

WHERE IT'S BEING APPLIED:
➡️ Musculoskeletal health — PRP, exosomes and polynucleotide injections to support joint tissue and reduce inflammation
➡️ Male sexual health — regenerative therapies exploring tissue repair, circulation and cellular communication
➡️ Women's health — non-hormonal approaches to tissue regeneration, collagen synthesis and intimate wellness

Clinicians also stress that biology doesn't function in isolation — chronic stress, poor nutrition and inactivity limit how effectively the body can repair itself, regardless of the therapy used.

The goal, as the field frames it: not simply extending lifespan, but preserving mobility, cognition and independence for longer.
