City Nomads

City Nomads The insider guide to better living. First launched in May 2012, we started out as a humble information provider for F&B events in Singapore.

Designed for folks who are curious about the world and share an appreciation for the good things in life, City Nomads is on a passionate quest to seek out the less well-trodden path in discovering the best that urban culture has to offer. The City Nomads today is a natural evolution from listings and the occasional opinion piece, to one of Singapore’s most-trusted sources of what’s happening in th

e city. In June 2016, we launched City Nomads in Bali, and are aiming to achieve significant market pe*******on in 2017. In the next five years, we’re looking to expand to more cities in Southeast Asia, in particular Bangkok, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh City. Besides these focused city guides, we will also be pursuing an editorial strategy with more international travel content.

Parallel Society is shaping up to be one of those Lisbon weekends that feels special. Apparat is playing live, Gilles Peterson’s on the lineup, and there’s a strong local presence too from Maria Amor & Shcuro (Disco Paraíso) to Chima Isaaro. Two days across 6-7 March that move from conversations around art and tech into a solid night of music, all set in Marvila, Lisbon’s old industrial district turned creative pocket of studios and cultural spaces.

Worth a look if you’re around! Find out more:

Yokohama feels like Japan with the volume turned down, in the best way.Less rush, more room to wander. Waterfront walks, historic neighbourhoods, slow meals, and an easy rhythm that makes three days feel just right.

We spent time exploring the city at a gentler pace, with a side trip to Kamakura for good measure. If you’re looking for a long-weekend escape that balances culture, food, and breathing space, this one’s worth bookmarking.

If you’re looking to re-engage with the city beyond the usual malls, this month’s lineup is for you. Whether you’re into the technical precision of a Liszt piano concerto, the annual Singapore Art Week festivities or the UK garage energy of salute at MDLR, there's something for everyone.

We’ve put together a curated list of what’s actually worth the time this month: https://citynomads.com/events-in-singapore-this-january-2026/

In the rush of the global art market, Para Site feels like a steady, intentional breath. Since 1996, this independent Hong Kong space has traded market logic for something much deeper: an ecosystem of radical care. Their recent 2025 Benefit Auction wasn't just about fundraising, it was a "quiet manifesto" and a homecoming for artists who were seen by Para Site before the rest of the world caught on.

From nurturing "messy" ideas to supporting the next generation of Asian voices, Para Site proves that the best art isn't just sold, it’s grown. Why does this model work so well, and what can the rest of the art world learn from it?

Twelve months of rebuilding, relearning, and quietly strengthening. If 2024 was a year of challenge, then 2025 was about alignment, laying foundations, putting structure back in place, and moving with more intention.

This year took us through earthquakes, storms, and power outages across three cities, all within a single month. But it also carried us to new ground: Macau, Hong Kong, Hua Hin, Bangkok, Porto, Barcelos, Gerês, Tbilisi, Diriyah, the Azores. New food, new cultures, slower conversations.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who trusted us with their stories, their time, and their worlds. This year reminded us that rebuilding doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it’s patient, human, and quietly transformative.
Thank you, 2025 for the grounding, the recalibration, the clarity.

2026, LFG!

Lately, we’ve been thinking about how gifting has changed. It’s less about filling space, and more about choosing things that feel right. Something made by hand, something that slows you down, something that gives a little back.

This Christmas, we’re drawn to gifts that don’t end when the wrapping comes off. The kind you reach for again and again, or return to when you need a pause. From handmade ceramics and meaningful art, to small daily rituals and moments of rest, these are thoughtful gifts that linger long after Christmas.

Coimbra doesn’t have Lisbon’s swagger or Porto’s cinematic sheen but what it does have is something slower, deeper, the feeling of a country remembering itself.

Walk its hills and you start to understand Portugal in a different register. The old stones of Sé Velha, the echo of fado drifting out of a courtyard, students in black capes moving like shadows against centuries of tradition. History isn’t a museum piece here. It breathes, argues, sings.

Cross the Mondego and the city softens even more. Gardens soaked in myth, bridges coloured by light, cafés where time seems happy to sit still for a while. It’s the kind of place where you let your plans loosen, where you follow curiosity instead of Google Maps.

If you’re heading between Lisbon and Porto, don’t breeze past this middle stretch. Coimbra may be Portugal’s quiet heart but sometimes the quiet places say the most.

Our Story

City Nomads is designed for those curious about the world and people who share an appreciation for the good things in life. We’re on a never ending quest to discover the best urban culture has to offer, often via the less well-trodden and invariably, more exciting paths.

Launched in May 2012 as a humble information provider for food and beverage events in Singapore, the natural evolution from listings and the occasional opinion piece to one of Singapore’s most-trusted sources of what’s happening in the city have provided us with the ability to start doing the same with other Asian cities. Besides covering food and drink, arts and culture, nightlife and entertainment in the cities we are based in, City Nomads features curated content on regional and international travel, as well as events around the world.
