From 1 October 2025, the use of power banks onboard Emirates flights will be prohibited. This change follows a comprehensive safety review aimed at mitigating risks associated with lithium battery-powered devices onboard aircraft.

-> Passengers may carry one power bank (under 100 Watt Hours) onboard, but it must not be used to charge devices or be charged using the aircraft’s power supply
-> Power banks are to be stored in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat and are not permitted in overhead bins or checked luggage (existing rule)
-> In-seat charging is available on all Emirates aircraft, but customers are encouraged to fully charge devices before longer flights

This proactive measure addresses the growing use of portable power banks and the associated safety risks, such as lithium battery “thermal runaway” events, a dangerous condition that can lead to fires or explosions.
