On January 3, we observe the memorial of the Holy Name of Jesus, a devotion especially close to Franciscans.
At this Christmas season, we recall that Mary called her newborn son Jesus, a name that captures his very identity: God's saving love.
We remember it was the Franciscan Bernardine of Siena who in the 1400s especially popularized devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. For more background, see our blog: https://www.franciscantradition.org/blog/holy-name-of-jesus-the-franciscan-connection
