On January 3, we observe the memorial of the Holy Name of Jesus, a devotion especially close to Franciscans.

At this Christmas season, we recall that Mary called her newborn son Jesus, a name that captures his very identity: God's saving love.

We remember it was the Franciscan Bernardine of Siena who in the 1400s especially popularized devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. For more background, see our blog: https://www.franciscantradition.org/blog/holy-name-of-jesus-the-franciscan-connection

We begin the year 2026 today, 1st January, celebrating the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God as well as the World Day of Peace.

We thank Mary for bringing Jesus, the Prince of Peace into our wounded world. Christ has come!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. “ John 14.27

“Do whatever He tells you. “ John 2.5

“Peace is born when hearts are disarmed and dialogue is chosen over division.” - Pope Leo

“Let us begin again.” - St Francis of Assisi

“All is well and all manner of things shall be well.” - Julian Norwich.

Once again, peace begin within each one of us. Therefore, let me learn from Christ, with Christ and through Christ embody the peace of Christ in my daily living. Amen.

Blessed Christmas to all!

Christmas was such a special feast for Francis because he saw the very mystery of God; God so loves us that He chooses to empty himself to be one with us in order to share his goodness with us in our human frailty.

In the mind of Francis, there would be no Easter without Christmas.

Peace begins with each one of us.
It’s an inside job.

Sharing some reflections:

True peace isn’t the absence of conflict but the ability to remain calm within it.

Peace isn’t something you find but something you cultivate from within.

Peace isn’t found in silence but in accepting and embracing the reality of “what is”.

Beginning again is our Franciscan spirituality.

What is God’s greatest gift to us?

God is Love!

What is our Advent challenge today?

Our response is “Blessed be God because He is good.”

And begin singing our praises to God.

Today, 29 November 2025, marks a joyful day for the St Clare Fraternity, Singapore, as we celebrate the profession of Ignatius Luke Chan into the Secular Franciscan Order.

It is a significant day for Ignatius as today is also the Feast of All the Saints of the Seraphic Order.

Today, 29 Nov, the Franciscan family celebrates the Feast of All Saints of the Seraphic Order remembering the many Franciscan men and women who have lived out the Gospel of Jesus Christ by following the example of Francis and Clare of Assisi.

We also recall two other important events:

- on 29 Nov 1223, Pope Honorius III approved the Rule of Franciscan Order - on 29 Nov 1979 Pope John Paul II declared St Francis as the patron saint of ecology.
