It's that time of the year when motoring clubs start to look at candidates for the upcoming FIVA - Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens Hall of Fame awards (for living and posthumous individuals). Since the Hall of Fame awards began a few years ago there has not been a single nomination from any of the South East Asian countries. Why not? Recognition is a taboo subject? Club politics? No valid candidates, dead or alive? No motoring heritage to speak of? Hopefully this article dispels the common belief that there is no motor heritage in our neck of the woods.

When is a Bugatti not a Bugatti? Lim Peng Han's Special at the 9 April 1950 Lim Chu Kang 1/2 mile Sprint and flying 1/4 mile, in the hands of Paul Gibbs Pancheri. You MG anoraks will be able to ID the chassis, drum brakes etc. even thought the body may resemble a Bugatti Type 37. Was the chassis off M Type reg. S5685 (later changed to S8718 following 1935 accident driving down the Gap)? And could this pre-war chassis handle an XPAG motor?
