50 years ago on 30 Sep, Pulau Brani Naval Base held its final parade before LTC James Aeria (top photo, centre) stepped down ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿ‘‹ He was the first commander of the Singapore Maritime Command (now Republic of Singapore Navy).

7 ships steamed past during the parade, with RSS Panglima leading the salute to its old friend ๐Ÿซก

It flies proud on every aircraft of The Republic of Singapore Air Force โœˆ๏ธ Originally inherited from ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, the RSAF has evolved over the years to reflect the Air Force's growing identity.

๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ”ด 1968: When the Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC) was formed, we inherited the Royal Air Force roundel, but swapped the outer ring to red โ€” ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌโ€™s national colour โ€“ to reflect that Singaporeโ€™s air defence is now in our own hands.

โ˜ฏ๏ธ 1974: A striking yin-yang emblem, featured within a stylised โ€œSโ€, was introduced after a nationwide design competition, symbolising the SADCโ€™s coming of age.

๐Ÿฆ 1990: To mark our countryโ€™s 25th year of independence, the Lion Head roundel was launched. Surrounded by a bold red ring, it represents our sovereignty, peace, and security. The lionโ€™s mane has 5 partings โ€” symbolising democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Tengah Air Base was once ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งโ€™s largest jet strike station in Asia? in 1971, it was officially handed over to the Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC) from the Royal Air Force.

This moment symbolised ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌโ€™s full air defence autonomy, and the foundations of what would grow into todayโ€™s The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). By the end of that year, Changi and Sembawang Air Bases also transferred command, marking the full withdrawal of British forces from Singapore.
