The Workers’ Party (WP) on Sunday (Dec 28) said in response to CNA’s queries that its party cadres have requested a special conference to be held and that the party’s top decision-making body - the Central Executive Committee (CEC) - will be “following up on the request”.

WP's statement comes after party secretary-general Pritam Singh's conviction for lying to a parliamentary committee, with the matter set to be discussed in parliament on Jan 12 next year.

CNA understands that over 20 cadre members have signed a letter calling for a special conference and submitted it to the party’s top decision-making body.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) was among several Asian carriers that cancelled flights to and from New York as the US state braced for a snowstorm on Friday (Dec 26).

The United States National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for New York early on Friday, cautioning that heavy snow was expected between 4pm local time on Friday (5am Saturday, Singapore time) to 1pm on Saturday.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) was “shocked and surprised” by comments made by Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) secretary-general Mark Chay on the Young Lions, but said that the matter has been resolved in private.

Speaking at a press conference held at Jalan Besar stadium on Friday (Dec 26), FAS general secretary Badri Ghent said he had a “really productive and constructive” meeting with Mr Chay.

With the year-end travel season in full swing, the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) is urging holidaymakers to prioritise their health by getting the necessary vaccines and medications before heading abroad.

When the COVID-19 pandemic triggered an e-commerce boom, TH was earning around S$2.40 (US$1.80) a parcel as a last-mile delivery driver – roughly S$400 a day.

The site at 38 Oxley Road was on Friday (Dec 12) gazetted as Singapore’s 77th national monument, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and National Heritage Board (NHB) said.

In a joint press release, the authorities said Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo has issued a preservation order to gazette the site under the Preservation of Monuments Act 2009. The order comes into effect on Saturday.

Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo noted that Mr Lee Hsien Yang's objection letter did not challenge the site’s historic significance or national importance.
