The Wandering Wasp

The Wandering Wasp A Singaporean travelling around the world on two wheels, seeking stories. Scooter and adventure travel seems like an uncanny mix. This is what I want to do.

Armed with an intrepid spirit, a 5 ft 1 frame (not a build typical for the usual adventure tourer bike), I am planning to ride the world on my Vespa scooter. Combination of insatiable curiosity about the world and its people plus my love of Vespa scooters led to this crazy idea. After the sudden passing of an inspiring and similarly intrepid friend a week before his adventure ride to China border, the brevity of life has never been more palpable. Under no pressure or expectation from anybody, what do I want to do? This idea was brought up during a causal conversation 4 years ago but it has never left my mind. I am just an ordinary person from an ordinary background who dreams loony, a perpetual child at heart. I do not have a huge fortune stashed somewhere to be doing this. Moonlighting 2 to 3 jobs and living frugally for the past 3 years has allowed me to save enough money for sustenance for a year or two. I hope! When time is not a limiting factor but money is, the kind of travelling experience is going to be very different from the usual. I am also very fortunate and honoured to know Goh and Samantha who did a similar trip from 2008 to 2010, becoming the first couple from Singapore to circumnavigate the globe on their motorcycle. They have been source of inspiration and encouragement. Through them, I met and spoke with many other overland traveller who share the same passionate wanderlust. All of which I chronicled on my blog which also holds writings and photos of my travels and musings. Intended set off time is in May 2015. The World, here I come! I can't wait to meet you.

And that’s a wrap on our first Ladakh tour of the season with Highland Xplorers two weeks ago.

This ride was nearly a year in the making for many of these riders. Most had dreamed of coming since last season, and despite the uncertainty and cancellations following the recent war, these five riders remained determined to make the journey happen.

So we adapted, made adjustments, and kept the wheels turning.

With 5 ladies and 1 gentleman, this turned out to be one of our most intimate groups yet. And that’s the beauty of a small group - more personalised attention, stronger connections, and plenty of shared laughs along the way.

Coming from Singapore and Brunei, a few of these riders were venturing overseas on motorcycles for the very first time. They faced unfamiliar roads, high mountain passes, freezing temperatures, and the challenges of thin air. There were moments of struggle. There were falls. There were doubts.

But there was also courage.

Day after day, they showed up, pushed through discomfort, supported one another, and discovered that they were capable of far more than they imagined.

We arrived as strangers and leave as riding buddies, bonded by dusty roads, learning gaali (swear words) in the cottage, flirting with camels in the sandunes, endless cups of tea and Chang - memories that will last long after the helmets come off.

A huge thank you to our incredible support crew Saurabh of Highland Xplorers, Hishey, Gurmeet, Sonney who led, guided, advised, encouraged, and quietly worked behind the scenes to make this journey possible.

Ladakh has a way of stripping away the noise. Out here, among some of the highest roads in the world, the mountains reveal your strength.

Until the next adventure. Comment “Ladakh” if you are interested to join future tours or WhatsApp to enquire https://wa.me/message/UPBLR4PIITZIJ1

What would you do when you realize life is too short to stay within the confines of what society deems acceptable? In this episode, we sit down with Juvena Huang, aka The Wandering Wasp, a Singaporean world traveler who traded the conventional blueprint for a Vespa and an open horizon. She has traversed some of the most spectacular — and occasionally misunderstood — regions on Earth, to find the common threads of humanity.

Join us as we dive deep into fearlessness, the art of slow travel, and why she says she’s still not done.

Water crossings always look fun… until you spend the next 8 hours riding with soggy feet 😩

Been using these waterproof socks from Sealskinz and they’ve honestly been a game changer for adventure rides. Tried and tested during my previous rides in Ladakh and Uttarakhand, through river crossings, rain, snow and cold conditions and yes, my feet stayed dry.

Use my code JUVENA5 for 5% off. 👇

Why I stayed away from the Vespa Community in Southeast Asia over the last few years?

I hesitated to share this. But I know it’s a conversation worth having, especially for young men and women.

Sexual assault doesn’t always come from strangers.
Sometimes, it comes from people you know, trust, and even respect. People with good reputations. People who have treated you well before.

But past kindness doesn’t equal future access.

No one is entitled to your body, your space, or your boundaries, no matter who they are.

It is ok to have boundaries and voice them. Anyone who doesn’t respect your boundaries doesn't deserve access to your life.

Since I got my motorcycle in India in 2023, I’ve spent the last 2 years exploring the vast country, especially the Himalayas.

Not just solo, but with friends… and many of you who’ve joined along the way.
It’s never just been about the ride.

It’s the falls, the breakdowns, the thin air, the long days and the laughter that somehow makes all of it worth it.

Through all these years, one constant has been
I’ve trusted the founder with every ride since our first meeting back in 2015.

I recommend to friends and followers who want to experience the Himalayas the right way.

Because some views… you don’t just arrive at.
You earn them with good people and support by your side.

Comment “HIMALAYA” if you’re up for it.
