Moonlee Records is an independent record label established and run since 2004 by a handful of music enthusiasts from Ljubljana, Slovenia and Zagreb, Croatia. The name of the label is a wordplay, deriving from its central mascot, Mr. Moonlee, which is portrayed as a martial artist lemon. Bands gathered under Moonlee Records are predominantly coming from ex-Yugoslav area – Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia,
Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia. There's a lot of fabulous young bands around here, all in a desperate need for basic infrastructure that would enable them to progress, including record labels willing to push them beyond the regional borders. That's when Mr. Moonlee comes and gives a chance to best among them. There is no genre we're looking down at, or not potentially into. Our bands range from atmospheric instrumental post rock over shining screamo to high endurance rock – just look how significant the bands we released became, and the widespread recognition they achieved throughout region and all over Europe. Analena, Bernays Propaganda, Debeli Precjednik / Fat Prezident, Damir Avdić, Repetitor, In-Sane, Xaxaxa, Psycho-Path, Vuneny, Don't Mess With Texas – these are just some of the bands that Moonlee Records promoted over the years. Throughout all these years, Moonlee Records remained faithful to DIY principles, and completely independent from institutions and other sources of finance. It's an important and conscious decision, as it gives us the freedom to release records by bands we really like, and to do it without inconvenient compromises. Moonlee Records team is comprised of people who gained a vast experience while playing in bands – a fact which gives us a good overview of young bands' needs. The feedback we receive from bands and audience is the definite proof that Moonlee Records is on the right track. We believe this is what makes us one of the most important and influential independent record labels from this part of Europe.
