Hostelling International Slovenia is a non-governmental organisation with an aim to promote peace through travelling and cultural exchange. Our target group are young people, especially those wanting to experience nature and other cultures through travel – and we believe this leads to more understanding and, because of that, a more peaceful world.
Our head organisation, Hostelling International, with more than 3.7 million members, has 4000 hostels in 90 countries all over the world. HI Hostels are located in some of the world's most inspiring locations and meet assured standards, which guarantee a range of a good quality and a safe accommodation in friendly surroundings at affordable prices.
HI Slovenia is based in Maribor where it has its main office and has more than 40 Youth Hostels spread all over Slovenia. Hostels are very different but all of them work with young people and for share the HI mission:
»To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, s*x, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.«
HI Slovenia is a leading organisation stimulating youth mobility through youth travel and youth hostels. We try to show travelling as a way of non-formal learning to gain more experiences for the future life. We are very proud of our volunteer programme, which we upgraded in 2016. Our volunteers help us with administrative work, managing social media, they write articles, promote our organization and so much more.
HI Slovenia is also a part of international HI Connect Programme for volunteer and staff exchange. Together with other hostel organizations we are creating possibilities for our volunteers and staff for increasing their skills and competences on the international level. HI Connect has been created from Hostelling International with purpose to provide people with a unique opportunity to experience life and work in another country; to enhance life skills and confidence; to embrace the culture and environment of the host country; to enhance their ability to learn another language; to create new friendships and promote mobility of people across international boundaries.
We are promoting HI membership card, which offers at least a 10% discount on hostels and other attractions in Slovenia, for example Postojna cave, sports activities in Bohinj and Bovec, a discount on guided tours in different cities, and of course discounts abroad like a discount on renting a car at Hertz, a discount on travel insurance at World Nomads and Doctor in Your Pocket and of course, discounts on accommodation in HI hostels.
We are especially proud of our monthly online magazine Globetrotter. The content is created by our volunteers who share their stories and adventures to our readers. It is sent to more than 11,000 e-mail accounts from all over the world and is daily visited by 2,000 people. Our readers can read travelogues, content on discounts, introductions to new hostels and so much more. If you want to be a part of our little community and be alerted of new content in Globetrotter, you can subscribe to the magazine and monthly news.
