🌞 Where Light Meets History – OKALUX at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki 👉https://www.glassonweb.com/news/where-light-meets-history-okalux-archaeological-museum-thessaloniki
A landmark of post-war modernist architecture, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki—designed by renowned architect Patroklos Karantinos—has stood as a cultural icon since the early 1960s. Listed as a historic monument since 2003, the museum underwent a major renovation in 2004, where OKALUX daylighting systems were chosen to elevate both functionality and preservation.
☀️ OKASOLAR S was installed in the atrium roof glazing to deliver glare-free, evenly distributed daylight while protecting interior spaces from Greece’s intense sunlight.
🌤 OKASOLAR W was used at the entrance, efficiently channeling natural light deep into the space while providing solar protection—ideal for high-traffic public areas.
💡 OKALUX HPI, featuring light-diffusing capillaries, was integrated into a central exhibition area to gently illuminate the space while safeguarding sensitive artifacts from UV and heat.
Even in 2020, OKALUX seamlessly replaced panes without altering the original design—proof of the system’s durability and long-term sustainability.
