🌞 A day in Taranto – Italy’s “city of two seas” 🌊🇮🇹 SAVE THIS POST FOR YOUR TRAVELS ✈️
Walking through the center of Taranto feels like stepping into a mix of history, seaside vibes, and authentic Italian charm. Here’s what you can’t miss if you take the same stroll we did 👣
1️⃣ Castello Aragonese 🏰 – guarding the entrance to the old town, this fortress looks straight out of a fairytale (and yes, the views are amazing).
2️⃣ Swing Bridge (Ponte Girevole) 🌉 – one of Taranto’s icons. When it opens to let ships pass, it’s a real spectacle.
3️⃣ Seaside Promenade 🌊 – a perfect spot for a walk with the sea breeze and views of fishing boats bobbing in the water.
4️⃣ Cattedrale di San Cataldo ⛪ – the city’s cathedral and a mix of styles from Baroque to Norman.
5️⃣ Piazza Ebalia 🌴 – the central square, filled with life, palm trees, and great for a coffee stop.
6️⃣ National Archaeological Museum (MARTA) 🏺 – home of the famous “Ori di Taranto” (Taranto’s ancient gold). Pure treasure!
7️⃣ Old Town Alleys 🏘️ – narrow streets full of laundry hanging, locals chatting, and authentic Southern Italian vibes.
8️⃣ Roman Columns 🏛️ – remains of an ancient temple right in the middle of the city. A piece of history just standing there.
9️⃣ Piazza Castello 📸 – lively, historic, and full of street life. The perfect place to sit and people-watch.
🔟 Fresh Seafood & Street Food 🦑🍤 – Taranto is famous for mussels, but honestly everything from the sea here tastes like heaven.
✨ Taranto is one of those cities where the past and present walk hand in hand. You’ll leave with salty hair, a full belly, and a heart filled with history. ❤️
