The Netherlands is reportedly planning to push for the suspension of European Union development aid to Sierra Leone over the country's alleged failure to arrest and extradite suspected drug kingpin Jos Leijdekkers, also known as "Bolle Jos." According to Dutch media, the move is aimed at increasing pressure on Sierra Leone to cooperate with efforts to bring Leijdekkers to justice. If approved, Sierra Leone could lose access to €352 million in EU funding allocated between 2021 and 2027, along with other EU-supported programmes. Leijdekkers, who faces lengthy prison sentences in the Netherlands and Belgium for drug-related crimes, is alleged to be living in Sierra Leone, claims that have been denied by Sierra Leonean authorities.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has appointed John Edward Keister as caretaker head coach of the Leone Stars pending the recruitment of a permanent coach. The appointment, announced on May 31, 2026, is intended to ensure continuity in the national team's technical leadership.

Keister, who currently serves as SLFA Technical Director and previously coached Leone Stars, will be assisted by Alhaji Foray and Mohamed Lamin Kamara. Their immediate task is to prepare Sierra Leone for two international friendly matches against Liberia, scheduled for June 6 in Bo City and June 9 in Monrovia.

The SLFA expressed confidence in the coaching team's experience and leadership as the national side continues preparations for future international competitions.
