Kasafoni Mining Battle Hits Parliament: Paramount Chief MP Challenges SLMMDCM's Absolute Land Control

On July 3rd, 2025, the Paramount Chief MP for Tonkolili District tabled a petition backed by his people demanding that Parliament recognise their land lease agreement with Gento Group for the Kasafoni Iron Ore deposit.
He is calling for SLMMDMC’s control to be declared null and void, insisting that the local communities have the right to decide who mines on their land.
