H.E. MUSA TIMOTHY KABBA CHAIRS ECOWAS EXTRAORDINARY COUNCIL OF MINISTERS SESSION ON RECRUITMENT AND STAFF FROM AES COUNTRIES.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) today held an Extraordinary Session of its Council of Ministers in Abuja, Nigeria, under the distinguished chairmanship of H.E. Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The session focused on critical regional issues, including the allocation of statutory positions among member states and the recruitment and status of staff from AES countries (Grade P4 and below).
In his opening remarks, H.E. Kabba reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and regional solidarity. He conveyed appreciation from H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, for the continued support of member states and extended gratitude to the Government of Nigeria for its warm hospitality.
The meeting also addressed pressing regional challenges such as the escalating terrorist threats posed by JNIM, ISGS, and ISWAP, as well as the resulting humanitarian crises driven by displacement and climate shocks. H.E. Kabba highlighted President Bio’s recent diplomatic engagements across West Africa, including visits to AES member states like Burkina Faso and Niger, aimed at fostering dialogue and restoring constitutional order in the region.
The Council reviewed proposals from the Ad-hoc Ministerial Committee on Statutory Positions, with closed-door deliberations expected to yield actionable outcomes for the region’s collective progress and stability
