Firefighters battle massive fire at northern Iraq oil refinery, four firefighters injured, four fire engines destroyed

A team of 32 firefighters in northern Iraq was battling to put out a massive fire Thursday, 13 June 2024, a day after it broke out at an oil refinery. The fire broke out late Wednesday at a large refinery in Irbil, in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq. Shakhawan Saeed, a spokesperson for the Irbil Civil Defence Department, said 14 firefighters were injured, four with burns and the other due to smoke inhalation, while battling the fire, which also destroyed four fire engines.

eThekwini Fire and Emergency Services responded to a scene where a man was killed on Thursday, 20 June 2024, after his vehicle ploughed through the wall of a fourth floor parking lot of the Atrium parkade on Overport Drive in Overport, Durban. The vehicle had come to rest on its roof on the road below with the 76-year-old man sustaining fatal injuries.
