08/01/2026

President Bio’s declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Action” demands a strong focus on Business and Technology as engines of economic sovereignty. The priority is to strengthen domestic production by formalising the informal sector, supporting SMEs for job creation, and transforming agriculture into a profitable and sustainable business through the Feed Salone programme, while improving domestic revenue mobilisation to reduce dependence on external aid.

At the same time, Digitisation for All must drive national inclusion in the digital economy. With expanded fibre and 5G infrastructure, the goal is to raise broadband access to about 60 percent, enabling e-commerce and efficient public services through platforms like the Wan-Gov application, while supporting fintech innovation through targeted funding and regulatory safeguards.

Real progress depends on human capital development. By scaling up digital skills training and aligning TVET programmes with high-demand sectors such as agribusiness and technology, Sierra Leone can build an immediately employable workforce, embed innovation as a national culture, and position the country for sustained, inclusive growth.

Myke, tell the President, if this is truly the year of action, let’s cut down on foreign travel. We have ambassadors. If he doesn’t trust them, then he should replace them.

The President’s speeches are always well-written. Our problem is not the speech itself, it’s the implementation. He has good writers, but the real challenge is in ex*****on.

Akin Sawyer’s data shouldn’t be considered authentic. You can’t just see people dying in the streets and conclude it’s Kush without medical examination. There’s a lot of homelessness in this country, so without proper investigation, that data is unreliable.

Believe me, the ordinary people are suffering. We need to install a suggestion box or create real channels for feedback. It would be a shame for President Bio to leave office without a lasting legacy. We all want him to succeed as a nation.

I personally monitored the Torma Bum Regional Rice Value Chain Project for two years. I also monitored the President’s farm at Tihun, across the river.

People fail to understand that the beauty of democracy lies in diversity, we don’t all have to be on the same side.

We are deeply divided, politically, tribally, and regionally. Politics has slowed our national growth. Both politicians and citizens share the blame. Politicians are responsible for making and implementing policies, but citizens also play a role in demanding accountability.
