According to the official, the power reduction will affect only 15% of the cityโ€™s electricity supply, and measures are being taken to manage the situation and minimize disruptions.

This statement comes after Karpowership, the Turkish company supplying electricity to Sierra Leone, announced plans to suspend operations due to unpaid bills.

While political critics have expressed concern over the potential impact, the government is urging citizens to remain calm and hopeful, emphasizing that the capital will not be left without power.

Sierra Leoneโ€™s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timothy Kabba, has pointed fingers at certain senior government officials for contributing to the countryโ€™s U.S. visa overstay concerns.

Speaking during an interview with Liberty Online TV, the minister revealed that some permanent secretaries have been involved in adding unauthorized names to official travel lists, leading to abuse of travel privileges.

Kabba disclosed that in some instances, he received passports of ordinary citizens falsely presented as senior government officials.

In response, he has instituted a new policy requiring all government-related travel requests to be vetted directly by his office.

He also stressed that the blame for visa overstays should not rest solely on the government, pointing out that some businesspeople and private citizens also exceed their visa durations, further complicating the situation.

Mining company Koidu Limited has issued a strongly worded letter to the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala, accusing the agency of unlawfully freezing its GT Bank account without due process.

In the letter dated 4th June 2025, the company claims the account block disrupted critical operations, including salary payments, fuel and food supplies, and legal obligations, calling the act โ€œan abuse of powerโ€ and part of a โ€œbogus investigation.โ€

Koidu further alleges that the ACCโ€™s actions are politically motivated and influenced by the First Lady, Fatima Bio, whom the company accuses of corrupt practices and undue influence over the Commissioner.

โ€œIt is an open secret in Sierra Leone that Mrs. Bio was responsible for your appointment,โ€ the letter states, adding that the ACC chiefโ€™s relationship with the First Lady compromises the independence of the institution.

The company also referenced a recent incident involving the arrest and questioning of a senior staff member, who was later released without charge, as further evidence of targeted harassment.

The ACC has yet to officially respond to the allegations.

*SLPP Kenema District Chairmanship, Kenson Moriba Brima Emerges Victorious*

Kenson Moriba Brima has been elected as the new SLPP District Chairman for Kenema, securing 81 votes against Moriba Koroma, who garnered 62. Koroma, the outgoing chairman, had served two terms and was seeking a third.

Brima, formerly the Chairman of Constituency 020 for two terms, enjoyed broad-based support leading up to the election. His campaign was bolstered by significant grassroots momentum and endorsements from key district figures. These included nine Members of Parliament from Kenema District, Mayor Thomas Karimu Baio, Chief Ibrahim Brima Swarray, local authorities, and the "Kenema for Kenema Inheritance Agenda" movement.
